I followed the game for a while but stopped, saw some demo videos. My questions is how similar is this in "feel" to a Dark Souls? Whe it was announced I saw this game as Capcom's attempt to do a game similar to DarkSouls/Skyrim, but more of a Souls like gameplay. What can I expect fromi it?

You're able to carry a lantern around with you. I personally like how they're handling the night time settings. It's actually realistic unlike most games. I believe that Magic Archers are also able to use light arrows to shoot into trees so that you're able to have light in that area at night.

It is no The Witcher, Skyrim or Mass Effect. It instead goes back to its roots to just being an all out fun RPG with tons of loot, leveling up and tackling enemies one way or another. It is never going to be an RPG that everyone will love but I have been waiting for a game like this on the current gen consoles for a very long time.

Yeah like Rivyn said it doesn't look like a game everyone will like, there has already been pretty split opinions on some of the design decisions (limited fast travel, no level scaling and no way to check enemies' strength, dark night time)
There are some more positive reviews/articles with more info than the short ones like GI: http://www.oxm.co.uk/41418/reviews/d...-dogma-review/ http://www.gameplox.com/2012/05/18/d...-ghosts-oh-my/

So... I plan on getting this game, but I'm pretty sure I know what I am getting into, I have a fondness for terrible janky games (Risen, Gothic, etc). But seriously, some of the DD Evangelism going on in this thread is lol-worthy. Shit talking TES and lauding a game based on its demo alone? Riiight.

Gametrailers often have an eye for quality in these sorts of games. They were one of the first to really laud Demon's Souls.
A lot of oddly myopic reviews for this game though, knocking it down points that other western games enjoy immunity from. I think this generation is where the line of games journalists with mates down the road in development has rendered the majority of their reviews meaningless. Also a lot of johnny come latelys and younglings that dont seem to know a western RPG style game doesnt have to be Skyrim. |

Not really. I invite all sorts of failure to a lot of Capcom for their mishandling of many a franchise, but this is the game made by what little talent still resides in their hallways, and it shows. I'd rather the message isn't sent that people prefer westernised or western studio handed stuff to games from the actual old DMC talent house.

If this seems 'meh' to you compared to other RPG's, then a Dragon has ripped out your heart and it lays silent. |

As someone that can turn a blind eye to the swarthes of terrible to be found in Skyrim, I guess you're pretty firmly in the camp the other side of reviewers are coming from. Which is plenty interesting because Dragon's Dogma seems to do everything right that I found wrong with 94% metacritic rated Skyrim.

At the risk of quoting my own tag, at times like this I wish Metacritic would show the median score as well as the mean. Granted it only differs a few points in this case (PS3), but it gives a better image of what the bulk of the reviews are saying as it isn't as affected by outliers as the mean average is.
Still in the range of what I expected for this game though. |

There's a pop up at the title screen that reminds you what new DLCs are available, Jim Sterling says he saw it in the tutorial telling him he could buy DLCs or something, but I must've missed it or maybe it was part of the tutorial message I turned off, I haven't ran into anything in the actual game but I've only played for a few hours, this is what Jim Sterling said in the comments section of his review:
