What's the deal with the 3DS version of Rayman Origins?
#1
So the 3DS version of Rayman Origins was originally slated for a March 2012 release but has since been postponed to a June release.
Are there supposed to be new features for the 3DS version? What else is known about this game? Information seems to be hard to come by. |

I suspect the low resolution and small screen are creating issues for the game.
The level design was created around a zoomed out view. In the Vita version you can pinch to zoom at any point, but doing so actually makes the game much harder as you cannot see what is around you. This issue could really hurt the playability of the 3DS version. |

If the 360 version was less than the Vita at the time, I would have bought that instead. I think it can be had now on consoles for under 19, whereas they're still charging 39 for the Vita version. Easy choice there if you own a console.

I think the Vita version has been on sale for pretty cheap as well.

I think my Amazon preorder is still live.
Though I already have it on Wii, PS3, Vita, and PC. Played the first few stages in each version (save for PC) and have enjoyed it a lot. Vita is the one I'm playing for keeps, though. Portable Rayman is just too grand. |

I'm eager to see how it turns out. I suspect a game that feels somewhat different to play either way, but the port could either turn out to be the most awesome if not most unique version of the game, or it could just be crappy because of the low resolution. Probably the latter, but it would be real nice if they got Origins to "work" with an awesome 3D effect.

The game looks really busy in 1080p, I can't imagine what it would be like on a small screen.
It's simply not a good fit. |

I think Rayman Origins should be played on a machine which makes him justice. It screams "HD" from every single pixel. |

Rayman Origins, however, was designed for 1080p but remains workable in lower resolutions (as low as 480p). However, I do feel that a screen as small and low resolution as that of the 3DS wouldn't be able to handle the level design. Perhaps they'll simply cancel the game and release something else for 3DS in line with the new Rayman title? You know what I would love to see? A proper expanded remake of Rayman 1 uses the UbiArt Framework on 3DS. The level design is perfect for a lower resolution screen and the enhanced visuals + 3D would look awesome. |

The real way to play is on PC with a multi-monitor setup at 5760x1080 (if only it worked properly :/ super wide screen 2d games like rastan 3 are so cool.) http://img.wsgf.org/f/u/contrib/dr/2...game_3x1_0.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2euf_bckvY |

Really? Meh, that's a shame.
Ah well, I guess it'll be interesting to see what they've done with it. I'm extremely curious to see how if the level design was modified to make it more playable on such a low resolution screen.

3DS version might have different enemy placements and cut down levels. Who knows could be the best version gameplay wise if they put the right effort to make it a handheld portable plat-former.
I look forward to seeing the magic that a nintendo handheld does bring to developers. People are critical of the low resolution, but hey, it's not all cons. Resolution isn't everything. Is there a way to make intercontinental account on 3ds? |

A low requirement game like this has me curious.
The GPU in the 3DS is capable of rendering scenes at 4k resolution. It's not like the Wii where the framebuffer is actually capped at a certain resolution. So I wonder if devs could, theoretically, make the game at a higher resolution on the 3DS than 400x240? |
