I played this online tonight and was reminded how terrible I am. I can see some SC5 revenge beatings coming my way in a month. :(

I've never played a VF game before, so I'm interested in this, but I gotta say that these graphics are pretty bad. DoA4 looks better than this. I understand it was originally released in 2006, but...I don't know, it needs a better art direction or something.

Hey Oichi, here came across what appears to be a legit list of trophies you can add to the OT

http://exophase.com/game/virtua-figh...down/trophies/

Seems pretty damn easy. Just playing arcade mode once and online for an hour should net you most of these.

Let you friends who like easy achievements and trophies know that they should pick up VF5FS!

Yeah, I'm really glad the ranked trophy is just 10 online plays. So I can go back to player matches after. No wins. No straight wins like Capcom shittily does. Just straight up playing the game. It's nice. I wish more fighters copied it.

Any of the more recent ones will work just fine. The original TE and TE-S ones are fickle and depend on what type of usb you have.

Take a look at a Qanba. Same Sanwa parts as the TE, but works with XBOX, PS3, and PC. Also supports POV/digital with the flick of a switch for some of the more troublesome PC fighting games. I might buy one so I can have a second stick next to my TE.

$15? Awesome

I'm not at all good and haven't played VF in years. Any chance of tiered competition so that I can play against similarly shitty players, at least at first? Or is there an AI competition mode and I just didn't notice? Either way I'll be spending a lot of time in training.

All fighting games need a mode like this...something to let you go through the moves and find out if you're doing them correctly.

Going to grab this Day 1.

It's not locked away on the disc, it's an actual download, the base game is a fraction of the price of standard retail disc, and it's a properly balanced quality fighter full of content. Yeah totally the same thing.

So does the online only consist of lobbies? For all the fighting games I've played online, I've always much preferred ranked matchmaking than player lobbies since I don't have a group of friends that I like to play with (fighting GAF's skills are WAY too high for me) and I don't like waiting for other people to finish until my next fight starts.

It'll seriously bum me out if there isn't any matchmaking.

Wow. I don't even know where to begin here. I'm not crapping on this game, $15 for the core package is a great value, but hating on other games for the same practice is double-standard city.

Let's not kid ourselves. Sega's "locking" already completed content made during the development cycle behind a "pay wall" regardless of where it's stored initially. You gotta pay them more than just the cost of the game itself to use it.

The DLC may be totally worth paying more in addition to the actual cost of the game. If it is to you, that's awesome. Buy and enjoy! but the same logic should apply to all cases.

Lets keep this endless argument in one of the many other day-1 DLC threads. Virtua Fighter is only selling fan-service outfits as DLC for those who feel the need to have those things. The core game is not compromised by this in any way.

It is the definition of win-win for fighting game fans and obsessive Virtua Fighter fans alike.

No argument with the last statement. The first part, however, seems like the arguments people get called "corporate shills" and "apologists" for in those threads.

Not even remotely the same. People were complaining about gems and characters as dlc, not costumes. Furthermore the game itself is 1/4 the price of a full priced retail game. Keep moving the goalposts.

It's not the same thing though. One is blatently ripping consumers off (huge chunk of game locked away to be sold at a later date) and the other is actually benefecial to consumers. Smaller download and smaller entry price for the full game.

I kinda missed the character discussions but my main is Sarah with my alternate being Kage. I also do a lot of Eileen and El Blaze when I want to switch it up.

As far as the DLC discussion goes I find it hard to call the situation the same for reasons that have already been stated in the thread. It's only costumes and the price for the game + DLC still costs less than a full priced game.

Sega was forced to segregate the dress-up items from the main game due to Microsoft's file size cap. It's not like they took them out just so they could make a big deal of giving us DLC that's not hidden in the base game, they didn't have a choice.

It comes with its own downsides, too--you won't be able to see other peoples' dress-up items unless you've bought them for yourself. (They're trying to negotiate free compatibility pack downloads that'll allow everyone to see the items whether they've bought them or not, but who knows if it'll actually happen.)

Plenty of ranting is done about costumes. Plenty of ranting is done about charging for DLC already completed when the game comes out. Those exact same examples are always huge point of contentions in Day-1 DLC arguments. The general principle of those practices seemingly enrage people to no end.

Originally Posted by DR2K: View Post

"blatantly ripping consumers off" is a subjective opinion based your value estimation of the game. Someone could say having to pay $30 for all the costumes in a $15 game (200% extra cost) is a blatant ripoff. $20 for the 12 characters in SFxT is only 33% of the core game's cost and offers more gameplay. That doesn't sound so bad when looking at it that way. Again, subjective.

What if this wasn't a digital download, but was a $15 disc and all $30 of the DLC was on it? Would your feeling toward the game change?

I'll just leave these questions here:
Is this day-1 DLC already completed at the games launch? Yes
Will Sega let you access this content without paying for it? No

These two things are not refutable and are precisely the practices that many people (not necessarily you) are screaming about with other publishers. That's all I'm saying here.

At least the base package comes with the complete roster. SEGA has even said that download limits played in having to make them DLC. It's also completely optional content that isn't integral to the game unlike SFxT lopping off characters and gems. Characters will also have six outfits right off the bat instead of two colors and chances are the netcode and training mode will be leagues better as well. If you really can't see the difference in value I don't know what else to say. You're even more lost than you appeared.

They've not given an answer to this- I suspect the answer will be no due to loading times though. Also, after about 1000 matches you'll want to skip it and just play anyways.

Never been big into VF but with this pricing and supporting SEGA's ass too see more affordable ports to the consoles. You have my $15 SEGA.
