I read the GB review and the main complaint that I felt from it is that MP3 isn't like the previous games. Not sure if that should be a factor when reviewing a game.

Also the part where it's a cover based shooter.

Ehhhhhhhhh... some mild ones. It's not too bad. Pretty sure we see a few new locations and bits from the second half of the game.

I generally don't trust reviews of Rockstar games. The scores for GTAIV, Red Dead, and LA Noire were all inflated, but I'm a fan of Max Payne. As long as the controls are tight, it should be a solid experience. That's really my biggest knock against their games, the Euphoria engine leads to wonky bad controls (not applicable to LA Noire). Hopefully, the focus on being a 3rd-person shooter will remedy this.

This is a problem GT has had forever. Most specifically to me their AC1 and MoH reviews.

Gametrailers review stated the level design doesn't match the "run and gun" gameplay most of the times with more open spaces, so you'll be spending a lot of time in cover.

Funny how level design can be so influential.

Kind of an odd line to walk. On one hand, a game should be based on its own merits, but it's likely that you're going to use its past games as the benchmarks for the sequel.

the PC versions don't run properly in widescreen. i don't think you can call them the HD version as a result. the PC versions could do with a clean up. this isn't a Silent Hill 3 situation.

No, not according to them. They decide their graphical scores in relation to their platforms, not irrespective of them.

The electronic distortion in the cutscenes will probably get annoying real quick. My biggest worry is the emphasis on cover-based gameplay. I want to run and gun (in slo mo). It also worries me when I hear that hitting objects in mid dive snaps you out of bullet time.

Dude, trust me you can run and gun in this game but you'll have to use some cover from time to time. I will playing this mostly as an all out run and gun game, with free aim only.

And I don't know if you've seen any gameplay so far but bumping into stuff mid dive is very cool.

It's just a shame the game wrestles the controls away from you so often. There are a lot of cut-scenes, and they can be immensely distracting. Even something as simple as moving from one room to another, or commenting on something in the environment, is shown as a cinematic, when it could have easily been presented in-game. The constant snapping between short bursts of gameplay and long cut-scenes really hampers your sense of interaction, and sometimes you feel like you're only actually playing half the game.

Thatīs also my big concern.

The complaints sound valid, but are neglectable to me. As long as I can blast fools in the knee in slow motion, and watch them flair around with that glorious updated Euphoria - somebody hand me a napkin, I'm drooling.

Reviews seem solid. Nothing to warrant canceling my pre-order. I'm usually pretty pleased when a game has a range of scores; it usually means it's trying to do something different (or in this case, much the same). I find 99.9% of "sluggish" controls complaints ridiculous; I'm on a controller. I'd even go as far as I saying I prefer sluggishness on a pad.

Thank you. Obviously they don't think CoD looks better than Crysis, but they judge games based on many different variables. How many times do we have to hear that review scores shouldn't be compared and contrasted, especially the sub-scores, before we take that in and understand it?

From what I recall, you couldn't play MP1 as a balls-out run-and-gun shooter either, due to rationing of bullet-time and the fact that you died quickly under fire, even on the easier difficulties. MP2 was a bit of a different story.

This!

I enjoyed (read: loved) Alan Wake despite it's repetitiveness and obvious padding, because I was absorbed in the story, immersed by the atmosphere and having a damn good time with the game overall.

If the main complaints about Max Payne are similar, and the multiplayer is being praised as a significant addition then I'm all game for it.

No, the reviews aren't all 10/10 like some people expected - but when the majority are 8/10 or better and all come to the conclusion that this is a tight OTT third person shooter, bring it on.
