If you complain a genre is dead, then support it when its showing signs of life. Otherwise you just dont like the genre enough. Many people here buy every FPS, 3rd person shooter or even fighting games, dunno why this genre needs to be isolated (especially when one of the games is dirt cheap) |

I like Blizzard as a developer, but while I loved and played the shit out of Diablo and Diablo II in their heydey, they remain the only part of their library I have any interest in. I like the idea of MMORPGs, but I don't like the massive timesink and endless world they offer. Same with Starcraft II (And RTS games in general) they're a fun genre, but I'm absolutely terrible at playing them. That said, I've gotten close to buying Torchlight multiple times, especially after it launched on the Mac via Steam's OS X launch, but the lack of multiplayer made me think that it would feel like a very lonely game. That being said, Diablo III looks fantastic, and I'll assuredly be buying it...but I'm not a fan of games over $30, no matter what the developer, so I'll likely be picking up a year or two from now. But Torchlight II seems to tick all the boxes that I'm interested in, and namely the price one, so I'll likely be there not long after release. |

I generally make it a point to support all loot-n-scoot games with wild disregard for my finances, but thanks for the reminder, Forbes!
Hah, this was the first thing I noticed also...

I enjoyed the Diablo III beta, and then I tried the Torchlight 2 beta and realized how much I missed being able to customize my character, as well as being able to switch between a bunch of different skills in combat. Diablo III is just a lot more streamlined than I expected.
So, for me, Torchlight 2 absolutely is a better bang for my buck. Not only is it cheaper, I enjoy the mechanics more. Ultimately, I wish I could have the Diablo III art and atmosphere with the Torchlight 2 gameplay mechanics... |

Playing Tourchlight 1 right now in anticipation for Diablo. I had played it before but only for a couple hours total.
Seems like a fun game, but I am expecting DIII to be better. (Never played the first 2) I do like the pet aspect, and being able to send your pet back to town and sell your goods. Will there be a similar system in D3 with the followers? |

I was thinking the same thing! My 8mo old has more rhythm than that.
Mini lists like this are designed to be shallow and inflammatory for the sole purpose of getting more clicks, but I guess shitty lists is what Forbes does best. |

I'd probably pick up Diablo 3 if it wasn't for the always online + auction house stuff. But I'm one of those guys who never played any of the Diablos as a primarily multiplayer game. I just liked bashing stuff for loot, offline, on whatever hardware I had lying around. Blizzard has completely lost touch with that part of their audience. Enter Torchlight 2.

Some very good points by the author. I'm happy and fortunate that I can afford both.

But yeah, the fanboyism and there-can-be-only-one shit is annoying. Just buy what you want, or buy both, or neither. Just don't be an ass about it. |

I love them. They pop up out of nowhere in the Diablo 3 threads. Pages of conversations about runes and builds, and out of nowhere someone posts a 16 paragraph half a damn page bullet pointed list of why I should be playing "Insert game here" instead of Diablo 3, complete with YouTube video links and all.
