I think the only console game I bought that had a online pass is UC3. Never touched the pass though, since I don't have any interest in the MP mode. Other games that also had a pass, were ME2, 3 and Batman AC, but I bought those for the PC and were incorporated into the game/install key.

I've never redeemed one for a console game yet, but did for Hot Shots Golf. |

I've got a few games with online passes I've never registered. I've since moved on to not buying games with online passes at all (which basically means that I have a permanent boycott on EA games).
In other words. I tried it once, but it made me really paranoid, so now I don't touch the stuff. |

I'll never pay for an online pass.
If it's a game I know requires a pass and I intend to play online (Battlefield 3), then I'll buy new. Otherwise, I'll buy used and enjoy the single player mode which I've done in games like Dead Space 2 and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. I almost bought Uncharted 3 new until I found out Gamestop prints the online pass code on the receipt. Worked out nice because I was getting it as part of a buy two get one free promo. I also think the whole online pass thing is a big boon for publishers, because it allows them to shut the servers down sooner. It's one thing when a game is getting fresh players online from second hand purchases, but when you eliminate that, the online community is smaller, and dries up sooner, thus allowing a publisher to shut it down earlier than they normally would.

PC games don't count because there are no used game sales. |

Safe so far, but it's been extremely easy for me, since I never play online.
Even if I were to buy a game that had it I most probably wouldn't use it. The only "premium" I paid so far has been the Prince of Persia Epilogue DLC as in "We'll sell you how the story really ends". Except that not only it didn't end, but the normal ending was much more satisfying than the DLC one!!! I'm still RAGING!!! |

I buy everything new so it isn't a problem for me. I also tend to be less interested in games with passes (not because of the pass, just not interested in the game). In fact, I think the only game I have that uses a pass is Mass Effect 2.
That said, I'd never reward a company for this behavior by buying one. |

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One is the only game I own so far with an Online Pass.
Not that I'm purposely avoiding them. I plan on purchasing Batman: Arkham City, SSX, Uncharted, etc. eventually. That's just how it's worked out so far. And I buy games new anyway. I probably won't even need an Online Pass for Arkham City anyway thanks to the GotY Edition. I don't think I'll ever buy an Online Pass separately though. That's up there with having to pay to go online. I'll never be suckered into doing that. |

Honestly, I very rarely sell my games and when I did, the used online pass didn't bring down the value.
As long as I can download the online pass on my nephews PS3 so he can play the full game on his account when I borrow it to him, I don't really mind. I would never pay to play online though, but I don't like it that much in the first place. |

I bought SSX, did not use the online pass prior to trading the game a week later. At which time I bought Mass Effect 3, and also did not use the online pass prior to becoming extremely bitter about the ending.
Me: 2 Online Passes: 0 EA: "we still got your money, fool." Me: -2 |

I bought Deus Ex a while ago, and made a new account to activate the pre-order stuff on. My friend did the same for Arkham City for the Catwoman stuff, so when we traded, we just swapped login info for the special accounts. Trophies and everything were still on our real accounts, too, since any account on a machine can play the content, as long as one account with it is activated on the console.
Maybe if I ever sell the game, I'll deactivate my machine and include the login/pass on a paper in the case. |

Most of the games with proper online passes (read: they're not just bonus content) I get on Steam, I think the only exceptions have been ME3 and Hot Shots Golf, the former being due to ME1/2 on 360 and HSG for being a Vita game. I did rent Wipeout and Uncharted 3 though, I simply didn't bother with online since it wasn't a big priority for renting anyway.
Actually that's the funny thing: as shitty as EA has been, they're one of the companies with the right idea: offer a few days free before requiring the pass. It's a perfect compromise between rentals (getting a taste of the game or blitzing through single player) and getting your cut from used sales. THQ seemed mixed there (no option for SR3, level cap in Space Marine), while Sony just doesn't let you play online whatsoever period. |

Every single game I have bought second hand that has some kind of online pass content has not been redeemed when I bought it. That is now six games in a row.
People just don't seem to bother redeeming them. Although I'll still rarely buy a game with content I give a shit about second hand. In that case I'll buy it cheap new or, more usually, just not buy the game. |

I've done my best to avoid them completely up to now. Probably will break the rule with Arkham City sooner or later (if I understand correctly there's a pass for the Catwoman stuff).
Sometimes it's difficult to know ... for example, does Dead Space 2 from EA have one of these passes? |

No, I never tried to avoid them because alot of my favorite video games now are starting to use some form of the online pass system. However, I guess the one thing I have done is that I will never pay for an online pass. (basically if I buy a used game I won't bother dropping $10 to enable online play)
