So glad seeing all the JK Simmons mentions- perfect casting for sure, he just nailed it.
More recently I know with Marvel they've recast Bruce Banner plenty of times, but even without current Avengers hyperbole Mark Ruffalo does an awesome job, and he's definitely done the best job as the character yet IMO. On the flip side, as good as Nolan's trilogy is too, anyone who says Christian Bale as Batman needs to be laughed out the thread. |

And I dread the new Spider Man reboot, because without Simmons as JJ, there's no hope. |

My personal faves
Heath Ledger - The Joker ![]() Christian Bale - Batman (Begins) ![]() Michael Keaton - Batman ![]() Aaron Eckhart - Two-Face ![]() Gary Oldman - Gordan ![]() Michael Fassbender - Magneto ![]() Chloe Moretz - Hitgirl ![]() Chris Hemsworth - Thor ![]() Man this thread reminded me of how much I hate Catwomans origin in Batman Returns, fantastic character but the origin annoys the crap out of me in that film. |

I've heard people saying they don't like Bale as Wayne/Batman. But I actually think he's a very thoughtful choice and fits the role for the following reasons:
- He is able to look like a handsome, rich businessman very well - He's got the eyes of a killer, this man has a short fuse. He is upset. And like Nolan said, he looks like the type of guy who would commit to an outlandish lifestyle - He looks like a vampire.. A nice touch for someone who lives in a manor with an alternate persona of 'Batman', like a count Chris Nolan has amazing taste and I agree with all his casting decisions. |

As much as I love The Crow, it absolutely breaks my heart watching it. A truly haunting final performance. |

Something I like about Ruffalo's performance as the Hulk is that he doesn't play it like Bana and Norton, as a tortured soul, woe is me kind of attutude. Ruffalo has this "easy going because he has to", hands off-ish attitude, where he can't let anything bug him even though it totally does. At least that's how I see it.

Exactly, you never even questioned it.
My favorite thing about the original Donner film is the sense of awe that people had upon witnessing Superman. The helicopter scene is the best because there's this whole "HOLY SHIT THAT DUDE JUST FLEW!!!" vibe that we don't really see much these days. The crowd in that scene were stunned in amazement, which is what would happen if some guy flew up and caught a helicopter. |

The question is... Which one is slightly more tolerable? ![]()

It's been years since I've seen them, but if I remember right I preferred Kilmer as Bruce Wayne, and Clooney as Batman. The problem is, their characters were written terribly in those, so it's hard to say which would actually be better

Which is pretty ironic, because both Clooney and Kilmer are both really solid actors in their own rights. Shame that Batman Forever really hurt Kilmers career. He was excellent in Heat.

Exactly. I really liked Val Kilmer as an actor, and it would have been interesting to see where he could have gone with a good Batman movie.

They were both in crap movies, and neither was that good at Batman. if I had to pick one, I'd probably go with Kilmer. Clooney was phoning it in the entire time.

Clooney - while being a great actor - is the worst Batman and Wayne by far.

This is true, too. Right now Iron Man is arguably as popular as Spider-man with non-comic readers. That was *never* the case before that first film and RDJ's performance.

I'm not sure exactly how well it fits the comic version as I was never really an Iron Man fan, but Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts has been a standout to me. She's much more three-dimensional than most comic damsels and volleys back from RDJ's narcissistic quips very well. |
