:O Random awesome connections!
Men ages 18-35 is also an important market. Should we also only make games that pander to the stereotype of what men these ages want? |

Some great replies in this thread already.
I'll throw Ernst Junger out there. He was a German soldier in World War I, and later became famous for publishing his memoir, Storm of Steel. Here's the Wikipedia description: "Storm of Steel begins with Jünger as a private entering the line with the 73rd Hanoverian Regiment in Champagne. His first taste of combat came at Les Eparges in April 1915 where he was first wounded. After recuperating, he took an officer's course and achieved the rank of Ensign. He rejoined his regiment on the Arras sector. In 1916, with the Battle of the Somme underway, Jünger's regiment moved to Combles in August for the defence of the village of Guillemont. Here Jünger was fortunate to be wounded again, shortly before the final British assault which captured the village — his platoon was annihilated. In 1917 Jünger saw action during the Battle of Arras in April, the Third Battle of Ypres in July and October, and the German counter-attack during the Battle of Cambrai in November. Jünger led a company of assault troops during the final German Spring Offensive, 21 March 1918 when he was wounded again. On 23 August he suffered his most severe wound when he was shot through the chest." |

The main reasons Japanese gaming and Eastern European gaming still stand out is because they are made with viewpoints based on their native cultures and not to directly pander to Americans. If you want to look for more culturally-based games, your best bet is the PC right now.
Just to throw some shit out there: Hervor (She could almost be the main character of a God of War game) http://badassoftheweek.com/hervor.html Baron Fredrick von der Trenk (Fought wars, escaped from prison, and macked on bitches, including two, possibly three queens): http://badassoftheweek.com/trenck.html The 20-or-so guys who got the first ever Medals of Honor: http://badassoftheweek.com/johnwilson.html Skuld (Viking sagas in particular are a goldmine for gaming material): http://badassoftheweek.com/skuld.html Viktor Leonov: http://badassoftheweek.com/leonov.html Joshua (Probably David too): http://badassoftheweek.com/joshua.html Grace O'Malley (One of the pirates I was talking about earlier): http://badassoftheweek.com/omalley.html Jan Zizka: http://badassoftheweek.com/zizka.html Toussaint L'Ouveture (Danny Glover's been trying to get a movie about this guy made forever): http://badassoftheweek.com/toussaint.html A Jamestown game from the point of view of Myles Standish: http://badassoftheweek.com/standish.html Hongi Hika: http://badassoftheweek.com/hongihika.html Ned Kelly: http://badassoftheweek.com/nedkelly.html I kinda stayed away from WWII and Sengoku badasses because the former could be the basis for parts of WWII games in general, and the latter have already probably been featured in a ton Japanese games I haven't played. Just some food for thought. |

Someone in another thread posted that Rockstar should make an open world pirate game, which would be so awesome. They could have you play as some rookie crew member as you guide him towards being the most feared pirate on the ocean and at some point reveal that it is blackbeard or something lol

I always imagined a game setting in an alternate 1400s Romania where Vlad the Impaler is actually the real Dracula. You play a Janissary from Sultan's army in the vein of Assassin's Creed, but much more action-adventure oriented (linear, God of War esque). There's virtually unlimited possibilities for scenarios.

I heard about this title a while back and It would be really awesome if it does happen with Rockstar collaboration. |

Niccolo Machiavelli.
There was a remake of Merchant Prince a while back which took his name, but it wasn't really very, well, Machiavellian. I'm thinking political intrigue in Renaissance Italy has a lot of potential. We sort of saw it from the outside in Assassin's Creed, but it'd be nice to see from the inside, too. |
