I don't understand why everyone is flipping out over this. They didn't confirm that the game would miss E3 at all. They just said that they aren't going to comment on it. I thought people here wanted surprises during the show?
Besides, if the game was 100% missing E3, Sony would have most likely confirmed it directly like they did last year. |

I remember when that first trailer came out a few weeks before E3 and then Sony had to take the stage and unveil it like it was a big deal. I think Kaz even joked that it was the "best kept secret" or something and then he showed an updated version of the trailer that we already saw a month earlier. Maybe this time theyre being ultra careful so they dont let the cat out of the bag. I wont lose hope until the conference is over |

They rejected Folklore 2, they are the problem.

SCE Japan Studio don't make games at all ( only Toyama's team is active) and they don't even want to green light sequels to their best published games like the Folklore 2 project they rejected( and they lost Demon's Souls), the Studio is a mess and need to die already and stop wasting what left of Sony's money with their stupid decisions.

My guess is that they're in the process of reworking the failed original concept into something resembling an enjoyable game. A lot of stuff sounds good on paper but isn't fun at all when implemented in a game. This level of development hell with nothing to show feels like one of those cases, as opposed to a game that works but simply needs more levels built in order to be completed.

From what i know actual development is being made by Marvelous with Inafune's Comcept working on the concept of the game...i don't think SCEJ is doing any development on it. |

Soul Sacrifice is being developed by Marvelous AQL (Harvest Moon). It's only being published by SCE. |

OK so they're just funding it but still helping create a new game.

I gave up hope on this game when they said it would come out fall 2011 and then delayed it without giving another date. I don't know if I even expect it to be good any more, games which take this long usually don't turn out well and clearly they've had HUGE development problems. Just let me know when its out (or when its cancelled which surely must be on the cards if things don't pick up. Nothing to show at E3 again? Does the game even exist?!).

So they outsourced development of a new title to a team at Marvelous. What does that say about SCE Japan Studio's ability to perform?
Like someone said, the only team in SCE Japan Studio that has made any decent games whatsoever this gen is Toyama's team (Siren: Blood Curse, Gravity Rush). They helped with Demon's Souls, but From Software did the majority of the work in developing it. That's pathetic considering last gen they made gems like Ape Escape 2, and 3, Siren, Siren 2, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and they worked on Rogue Galaxy. Their output of quality games has really ground to a halt.

All they need to do it have Ueda walk onto the E3 stage, or have some separate event, appear confident, play a portion of the game and announce the release date. It would restore all the goodwill they'd need restoring.
Can't believe people would call Ueda jerk or arrogant. The guy comes across as a combination of humble and confused every time he talks, the total opposite of arrogant. Yeah, he takes time to make games but we're not paying for their development, so who cares. It's also not like he wastes time to create 'perfection' or whatever. SotC was far from technically perfect, but they released it when the game was complete and playable.

I only see Everybody's Golf, White Knight Chronicles, and Patapon on SCE's External Development webpage. |

If it ends up being a PS4 launch title then the game would truly be a financial disaster of epic proportions. They have to try for the PS3 install base to recoup as much of the development costs as possible. It will still lose money, but not to the scale that a PS4 launch game would.
Besides, all indications are that the PS4 will not be using the Cell again and will use a more traditional architecture. They might as well just shit can the whole game if they have to start from scratch. |

Also, there would be sense in launching a console with a game like this, it would actually have a chance to sell more than it would late in the PS3 lifecycle where it could end up being overlooked, despite large user base. |

I would like to hear what the budget has been, but after so many years I'm sure it is more than they can make back. And there is no scenario where they can sell more copies on a launch console. Releasing a game on a system with less than a million units sold vs a system with well over 60 million units sold. There is no math that makes that scenario better for Sony. Unless you think it is such a niche title that only a small portion of Sony customers would interested. In which case even on a system launch it would still be a niche title that very few Sony customers are interested in. |

I predict that it will be faithful to the original concepts, but it will not receive the same level of acclaim as SotC. People will then jump to conclusions, blaming its flaws on the development problems and the other studios 'ruining' the 'vision' of Ueda.
