Ghost Recon Alpha - full version on YouTube #1

Couldn't find a thread on this. Please delete if there is one! The full Ghost Recon Alpha short film is now up on YouTube.

Ghost Recon Alpha (720p - 24 mins)

Directed by François Alaux and Hervé de Crécy (the team behind Oscar-winning short Logorama), written by them and Tim Sexton (Children of Men), with cinematography by Trent Opaloch (District 9), and editing by Pietro Scalia (Prometheus, Black Hawk Down), Alpha is the first movie to drop from Ubisoft Motion Pictures - with a story that continues in the Ghost Recon Future Soldier game.

I kinda like it, even if the demise of the dog robot thing is a bit Monty Python.

Yea, aside from that big of cgi with the tank, this was really well done. I'm impressed. Well-paced, and good action. You can tell a lot of talent and effort went into this. Surprising since these things are usually half-assed.

Is a copy going to ship with the game? I'd like to own maybe a higher quality (1080p?).

Looks like there's a blu-ray in the US with a making of, etc. - nothing for the rest of us though!

Dvd comes with the collectors edition, better than nothing I suppose. Very cool little film, has me kind of pumped for the game now. I hope they can capture some of that drama and tension in the campaign.

Just finished watching and I really like it, made me want more Military Futuristic game for a change. Guess this, Black Ops II and Binary Domain will please me in the future.

I also got interested and did a bit of search. I found this for you:

"A Collector’s Edition for the game has also appeared online for Australia and New Zealand. According to MCV, the package contains a steelbook case, hardcover artbook, Alpha short movie DVD, lithographic prints, a t-shirt, and unlockable game content. A price has not been announced, but retailers in the region have it listed for $127."

Shame... If only I could get the Steelbook case I would be Day One on this one.

Well trod ground from a narrative point of view but well done and I like it. It's got me pumped to be a Ghost again.

I like that Ubi is beging so ambitious with the dev cycle and marketing on this. It's a good sign.

I enjoyed it, I was hoping for more later on.

Definitely. I'd watch a full-length summer action flick like this if Ubi were to help make it happen.

Just found out all the talent involved with this film, so now its not so surprising!

Ridley Scott was involved and the writer from Children of Men.

Put that in the title OP and this thread will take off.

IIRC I heard this in an episode of Psych where Guster says that in a battle type situation the "Brother" is always the first one to go.

As for the production values, I think it was very well made. I got Crysis vibe at one point (when they decide to destroy the body of the brother) and MI5 aka Spooks as well.

That was great.

Was the buyer and woman in the car a nod/satire of James Bond/M?

Also, when the computer guy got hit, I immediately thought "the black guy always dies first" too.

That was actually tremendously well done. Couple it with the beta being a whole heap of fun and Future Soldier is looking like a winning product for me.

Ubisoft seems to like putting out tie-in short movies with their games, and I wouldn't be surprised if one of the reasons they formed a movie studio was to make this process easier, as well as trying to get movies based on their own IPs made.

That was.... expensive.

I dunno, I think some shorter clip like the usual Halo TV spots would be better to promote the game.

But still, really well executed.

Wow! That was actually pretty damn good and more intriguing than some full military themed movies I've seen in the past few years. The quality and detail is on the level of the Halo shorts. Cant wait for the continuation.

100% pure dude bro action. Probably what the younger audience thinks they'll actually be getting when they go out to buy Ghost Recon.

It was okay.

Really? Much of the action only came at the end. Were they suppose to talk it out?

It was mostly tacticool undercover military action badass lingo stuff for the first half then dudebro action.

The sniper shot through the SUV that killed the two guys instantly reminded me of every Call of Duty sniper montage that blasts Skrillex.

It's not bad, but something about it just rubs me the wrong way.

You must hate any type of movie with some action. Moreover from the jump you know this would be military themed so to then watch it and complain it rubbed you the wrong way because of a sniper shot that killed two men instantly seems odd. Two each his own though.

Was expecting something cheesy like Find Makarov.

What I got was Black Hawk Down production quality. Probably shouldn't be surprised as Ridley Scott is thanked in the credits.
