No, we're acting like (nearly) anything goes because Tony Stark built a magic suit of bulletproof powered armor in a cave in Afghanistan with a nigh-infinite palladium-based power supply I'm the first movie. The "dat shit cray" baseline for the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been set very, very high.

Skimpy superheroine costumes are actually a thing because they distract from the ridiculousness that is superheroines. Scarlett Johanson's costume simply covered so much skin credibility strained to the breaking.

It's like complaining about the inconsistent Time-Travel mechanics in that one Ninja Turtles movie. It's a movie where the main characters are talking, bipedal, teenage mutant ninja turtles. Who cares how the Time Travel works? Why protest about that, if you've already accepted the ridiculous premise? |

Both are parts of the male power fantasy model. They dont look the way they do cause its some reverse appeal to women.

I don't think the Bechdel test should be used as a criterion to determine if female characters are worthwhile to a plot. I don't believe a film maker has to keep a check list and cross off the bechdel test to have instrumental female characters.

you're right though, it shouldn't be used as the ultimate barometer. |

I think the Bechdel test would be very useful for judging the film industry as a whole (especially if there were an opposite test to create a point of comparison). It really says nothing about an individual film, though.

I am all for the plots of female characters not revolving around men for the duration of a movie or female centric or led movies but I don't see how satisfying (or not) the tenets of the Bechdel test makes for a good or bad movie.

Nah, most versions of the Bechdel test require women to talk about something besides clothing and shopping for the movie to pass. But you're right, if Maria and Natasha had spoken to each other, I could see why it'd be hard to imagine them talking about anything else.
