Damn, everything is so low. I hope WiiU and Orbis will kickstart Japan a bit... I remember seeing old NPD charts from the mid 90's, the market was much more dynamic and so many more sales all around. Hope it gets better soon.

Resident Evil can hurry up and drop the fuck out of that chart btw. Go Kid! Woot! Also not 'bad' for FE - will it join the 3DS Monster Mash?? |

It also has to be accompanied by big releases, and there just aren't any. I wouldn't expect it till Soul Sacrifice time if that hits before Christmas. Sony are in grin and bear it mode, for the better or worse. |

I went to Garaph and put in the following query:
Quote:
The worst week on the list was 2011-05-09 (one year ago): Code:
1 DS Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 - Professional 17,995 2 3DS Steel Diver 16,900 3 PS3 Suzumiya Haruhi no Tsuisou 16,786 4 PSP Suzumiya Haruhi no Tsuisou 15,471 5 PSP Patapon 3 11,967 6 PSP Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 9,355 7 PSP Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume (Charity Edition) 8,749 8 PSP Saigo no Yakusoku no Monogatari (Final Promise Story) 6,414 9 PS3 Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 5,595 10 PSP DokuSui: Doki Doki Suikoden 4,863 This week: 127,888 units The next worst week on the list had 150,448. Which makes this week, as best as I can tell, the second-worst week since the DS/PSP launched ("this generation"). |

Just to put things in the right perspective, the past "post GW weeks", with the comparison with the GW itself

If they were going with a price cut then it wouldn't make sense to do it unless they had big releases coincide with it, like Nintendo did.

3DS has Mario Tennis on the 24th and DQM:Terry's Wonderland on the 31st. DQM is a likely million seller and Mario Tennis could do around 500k (maybe less, depends but Mario Sports game usually do pretty well in Japan, even Sports Mix)
Vita has nothing in May I think, June is going to be better with Persona and Gundam (and maybe MGS collection but I seriously doubt it's going to do anything significant). I have no idea what kind of number Gundam will pull but Persona 4 should at least do well over 100k.

The games market isn't going to improve unless the overall economy improves, and I don't see that happening any time soon.

4,600 units for the 10th place piece of software. OUCH. I understand that sales will be down a good bit from Golden Week but that's pretty dire stuff.

It's a generally slow time of the year coupled with a shift of sales due to Golden Week (people who would have bought games this week bought them last week instead). Yeah, it's normal.
3DS's drop is pretty significant, though. It's going to be interesting to see on which level it will stabilize during May. |

I'm not sure how anyone expect Sony to "do something" when it comes to the Vita.
You know they haven't left it to die, you know they are working on stuff and have some sort of plan for it. It's not like they can see these numbers and suddenly release FFVII remake as a reactive measure. (Bad trends all around, gaming, don't die.) |

- Sony drop price - Sony sell a few more Units - "OH NOES, they make more of a loss!" - Sony still can't change the Vita to be a success - "OH NOES we've made it worse!" - Software doesn't move to Vita - "Oh buggering hell..." - Some hardware sales, but little competition among software developers cuts Sony's margins - "OH NOES..." Basically this 'magic' price drop will not necessary save the system from a financial perspective. Its a bad product. Sony don't know what to do. So there...doing nothing - simple as that. Lesson kids? Plan. Plan. Plan. Nintendo made mistakes in their planning. But Sony made the mistake of not making a plan. |
