The only thing you lose is progress since your last save. No way to remove the letterbox.

I kind of wanted to go through the first time with just my main pawn, but maybe I should think about hiring one or two - at least when out in the wilderness. What's the consensus here?
Playing with just 1 pawn or without any pawns is absolutely possible. I've done both a couple of times already. Playing as a fighter is a little easier because you can block. But strider is still viable as long as you try to separate the enemies by sniping them followed running away a bit. When your level is too low the ass kicking shield dude might be prohibitively hard though. If so, just run. There's no shame to it.

The key to these surviving runs is actually to do away with a mage trying to cast heal; it's slow and pointless. Use healing items, especially harvestable food. Moldy versions are always best, and there's always plenty lying everywhere. The ones you want to collect and keep are apples (shoot them off trees) and grandgrapes. The grapes are great by itself but both are god-tier curatives when moldy. Also, don't bother trying to heal your pawn, you reviving them for 50% health is the only healing "item" that it needs.

That's great advice, especially about the curatives. Thanks very much.

That ass kicking shield dude is the exact one I mean! He always clowns in and wrecks my shit. Glad there's no shame in running. One day... *shakes fist*

That's interesting - I'll try dropping my mage's healing spell and focus on buffs/attacking (maybe the "cure" spell just in case). Guess I just need to be more careful when pulling enemies or picking off stragglers. How do you play completely solo by the way?

The saving thing is fair enough - I've just become "spoiled" by Dark Souls and its constant saving, haha. Who'd have thought that game would provide a luxury? Anyway, I'll press on and save regularly. Thanks again =)

The best way is to start as a fighter, get to gran soren as quick as you can, swap to assassin for the augments that boost your stats when playing solo. Once you've got those perks playing solo isn't hard at all. I'm sure it's possible to play without those perks, fights just get a lot longer, and more boring.

Playing with 1 pawn is a little more balanced, and more interesting. You can do different setups to make it fun! Magic archer playing a support role with a warrior pawn is great fun, for example.

I'd recommend against having your pawn a mage in general. If you are just rolling with you and your pawn you really need more damage over a support class. If you want to keep them a magic user at least switch them to a sorcerer.

Cheers guys. I will switch my pawn to a sorc as soon as I get the chance. Was planning on going Strider>Assassin with my main guy anyway.

As for the Japanese lyrics, it's because I've got the system set to Japanese language... It happened with the original SFIV as well. Capcom games are cool like that!

Combustion (or whatever they call it the one with the flame wall) is a great quick spell too. I used that to take out groups with my sorcerer. Not sure how well the pawns will use it though.

Seems I messed up -.-

I just fought the 2 Wraiths on the great wall and the red dragon appeared, at the end of the quest I got a new quest telling me to go speak to the dragon forged.

However since I like exploring everything I went through a door that start another quest and cancelled the other one (the one that tells you to face the dragon), did I miss anything important, and possibly other quests as well?

Also am I near the end? There seems to be still alot of Story related trophies missing.

You are maybe an hour or two from the end depending on how quickly you move, i guess. You only missed a small thing (i forget what talking to the dragon forged actually does), but the next thing he does is tell you to go to the greatwall to face the dragon. I'm assuming that's the door you went through?

Yeah, I guess I'm not missing much then. He doesn't give you any items or stuff like that?

Start whatever you like to play as, fighter is probably the most balanced/easiest job to start with imo, it's great if you like shield classes, then you could switch to mystic knight if you want uber magic shield skills, but if you want range and other abilities, you'll want to pick the other vocations.

I can't comment on magic classes, I'm not really that into them :(

Fighter is best to start out with, imo, for two reasons: shield blocking and the Sinew augment.

I started out as strider and played with it pretty much through out the entire game. Only very near the end I switched to assassin.

I've never found shield blocking to be that useful, but Sinew is a wonderful skill. You also get the most HP and defense so it'll make your life easier when you're still learning how to play.

Best tip is to just get Blink Strike.

shield blocking is the shit, it blocks almost everything including magic and range, mystic knight block is hilarious since you could counter most of the attacks, and you could absorb damage with demonswrath, it's fun!

Just finished, what a disapointing ending.

Boss was tedious and way too easy.

I mean, they put those balistas there and the boss doesn't event attack them, I even stopped using them because... what's the point? Might as well be fighting a wall.

Even after that it was still too easy.

I still have alot of Story related trophies missing though but I'm not sure why, gonna have to read the wiki I guess.

Pretty sure you just have to hit him in the heart, I played a fighter on my first play through and I climbed its belly to reach its heart since I had no range, so it should be easier on assassin with range and gouge, also you could try the dagger counter, it works for some of the bosses' attacks, it teleports you.

and yea the camera and controls sucks for climbing

I know all that and yes I went to the guy in the cave and got the knowledge and I know about the heart but the problem is like I said my arrows do almost no damage at all so the fight takes forever...I will try again tonight, thing is with the single auto save bullshit,I can't go back and change anything now(yeah they warned me)so I might have to let myself die and go with the easy mode if I want to see the ending...

Just played the Adventure demo that Capcom dropped this week.

It completely changed my opinion of the game. I came away from the previous demo (the battle one) pretty cold. But the Adventure demo sold me.

I love being able to jump around towns and climb fucking everything. There are secrets everywhere if you're willing to look for them.

Buying a copy today.

One question though, what's with the goofy running animation when you're out in the world versus the regular running animation when you're in a town? Kind of threw me off a little.

Otherwise, great game.
