Borderlands 2: Your Questions Answered plus new screens #1

Quote:
Can we expect better more consistent framerate this time around? (via @Is_It_JustMe @Iantheausguy)
That’s certainly the plan! We’re entering the phase of development right now where we are focusing on framerate and stability, so it’s too early for me to give any final numbers, but you will see an improvement over the first game.

Can a second player on local splitscreen be logged in to a separate PSN ID and gain Trophies and stats? (via @frag123456)

We’re looking into this as well, but right now the answer is no.

The only important question: will voice communication be fixed? It was unusable in BL1. (via @keithschon)

Good timing – you’ll hopefully be pleased to know that a portion of our programming team is working on voice chat issues right now so they will be working for everyone when the game launches!

Will there be more character customization (individual skills, armor, etc) than in the first one? (via @justtom2012)

You’ll be able to choose from a large variety of swappable heads/hairstyles/headgear in addition to choosing from hundreds of unique color and decal themes, and both together offer a ton of options for customization. As for skills, each class offers a bigger quantity and more interesting variety of skills to choose from in the skill trees.

What enhancements have you made to the weapon interface, inventory, and pickup system?
We have a completely new inventory screen and all of the other interface screens have received various upgrades. There’s a lot more useful data for gear comparison and also more descriptive text on the item cards as well. Having said that, the best way to know what a gun does is to use it – and some weapons are *very* special…

Money and ammo now automatically pick up if dropped from enemies as well!

Looks better than the first, way more vibrant, loving it :). So very glad they changed the artstyle for the first so that we could arrive at what we currently are getting for the sequel. Seriously, looks sexy.

I may only be buying two more games this year...but thankfully Borderlands 2 will ensure hundreds of hours of loot hunting. Can't wait to play this, every new screen looks amazing

More customization? Nice one.

But I've seen this game in motion, and I really hope the upped color palette doesn't make it look so blendy that it is unplayable.

From the moment I played Borderlands I knew the sequel would be amazing.

It was a great concept that was sort of barebones. (See AC)

Now with the time and money to flesh it out, BL2 is going to rock worlds.

I really do hope they get the chat all worked out by the time this game comes out. It was ridiculous how broken it was in the first game. I'm surprised that issue isn't brought up more often.

Hopefully the netcode is actually decent this time. Tried to play a 4 player co-op game with friends on the PC version and regardless of who hosted you could clearly see the delay between firing and shots actually hitting.

I'm playing through the first game now and have far more gripes than I remember having the first time round when it came out. Still love it though.

I hope they fix up some of the stuff that I find irritating. The world is too broken up, it becomes a chore figuring out where you need to go and the often numerous loads required to get there.

I hope they fix the loot randomizing algorithm. I'm sick of getting the same 12 ammo 50 damage combat rifle over and over and over.

I hope they make grinding easier if they are going to have difficulty jumps for those who don't want to do every single side quest along the way.

I hope they refine the Second Chance mechanic, it's more of a nuisance than a cool system imo.

I hope they fix the save system. I appear at a different point than where I saved on loading the game pretty much every time.

Looks great. I played into the 3-digit-hours realm of Borderlands despite all the complaints you can make about it...a game where all of those complaints were addressed would be dangerous stuff.

Iffy Q&A, I'd like to hear less about the obvious performance tweaks and stupid bullshit like trophies and more about the gaping flaws in the original

Edit: Oh, it's the PS3 version. yeah I'd ask about framerate then, the first one dipped into the single digits in parts. Caused me to sell it off and buy a new GPU the next week. Actually one of the first things that pushed me back into PC gaming :lol I thank them for that.

I wish there were more broad questions asked about some of the key faults I had with the original:

-Is there going to be more tuning done with the difficulty? More modes? First game was stupidly easily on both passes. After Diablo III I'm not going to have much tolerance for a poor scaling game in this sub-genre.

-Has there been any hefty work done to the loot randomization methods? Loot was horrible in Borderlands

-Any thoughts on class design? More tweaks is better but the quality and diversity needs to be raised, the skills and trees in Borderlands were already bad when they came out, three years later and some big pushes in the genre they're much worse.
