Watching a few clips on Youtube, it seems it never improved. The sprite work isn't even any good. Like the entire concept of the show is that it looks like an old-school video game, but you can't even make sure the pixels on the characters are the same size as the pixels in the environment?


Community did it way better.

It's actually funny instead of being all, "Hey, look at us, we're being offensive, that's funny right??"
It has a bunch of subtle yet fun gaming references without being all, "Us gamers, am I right??"
And the pixel art is far better. They did it as a gimmick for one episode, and they managed to create a cast of pixel-art characters that were far more charming and distinct than Code Monkeys, who apparently thought their generic webcomic blobs could carry an entire show.

Fuck, I miss the old G4 stuff. X-Play, Attack of the Show, Electric Playground, Arena, Cheat!, filter, Icons, and some others.

Sure, it wasn't ground breaking stuff, but it was before I really messed around a lot with the internet, and before I checked gaming sites every day. It was cool to see stuff produced about gaming, and it was one of those stations that you could flip on that would always have something decent on. I remember loving Icons, as it always gave interesting views on certain people in the industry.

Besides tonight and a few other occasions, I haven't checked the station in a while. I can't help but wonder why it is the way it is. Maybe a gaming-centric network couldn't work, but for a network that has 4 hour blocks of both cheaters and cop shows every single day...do people really want that? That just sounds like they have a dearth of original content. I did enjoy Ninja Warrior though.
