It's next up in my backlog though, looking forward to it.

It's pretty good, but Nier's soundtrack easily destroys it, in my opinion.

Some of my favorite tracks:

1.06 - Grandma
1.12 - Temple of Drifting Sands
1.13 - Gods Bound by Rules
2.05 - His Dream
2.06 - This Dream

While it was great I wouldn't say that. That being said the game really is one of the best games of the generation, one of the most enjoyable RPGs of all-time, and probably in the top 100 games that I've played. I just feel that it was eclipsed by The Witcher 2 and Skyrim (being that they were all great RPGs released in the same year).

The only reason to not choose Nier instead is that you haven't played it and don't know that the soundtrack is great.

The feeling you get when this comes on is what makes me keep gaming. People who have played the game will know what I mean. Amazing use of a song to enhance the whole scene.

Halo series, Mass Effect, Rayman:Origins and NieR is also up there for me. The last one probably the most.

In all honesty, there have been far too many good soundtracks to pick. This gen has made the "8bit soundtracks were best because LIMITATIONS MAKE YOU BETTER!" crowd look quite ridiculous.

Deus Ex HR was right up there.

Quite a bit of ME stuff is heavy handed IMO and most of the ME1 stuff sounded like rejected 80s sci fi themes, not to mention their best club theme wasn't even original, they took it from NFS IV.

Likewise with those mentioning Halo river dance themes. Heavy handed

Nier and Galaxy, of the games I have played/OSTs listened to.

I'm kind of surprised by some of the soundtracks being listed in this thread. A number of them are ones that work well in their respective game atmospherically, but do not hold up as stand alone OSTs. Like Mass Effect for example, which isn't even that good to begin with.

On a related note, the Zelda 25th anniversary orchestra soundtrack is impressive. Although it doesn't count here.

It's supposed to be 80ish considering the whole game is based on early scifi stuff. That's exactly the point. ME2 they expanded into orchestral stuff and ME3 is a fantastic mix of both. The themes are beyond amazing and they did a great job mixing synths, acoustics and pianos.

In regards to the club music, so? It's still part of the soundtrack and it fit the environment perfectly. I mean they used faunts and that was another fantastic piece but it wasn't created solely for the game.

Then why didn't they continue that? Only the first game is based on 80s? And anyways that was a complete turn off for me since I went in expecting exactly what it offered; a sci fi game made in 2007. The dated sounds didn't flow for me, but it's not that the franchise music is terrible, just on the heavy side.

On the club themes I have issues with ME taking cred for the best club theme it had (Callista). The early NFS titles deserve any and all credit for their amazing OSTs at all times, no exceptions. (also, if you liked that song check out NSF3 and IV OSTs)
