Guys stop hotlinking Amazon images.
edit - American Gangster was good, no doubt, but not his best. Also it felt like it was missing the ending. Which it was. Funniest thing, Cameron is a much more consistent director than Scott. If you were to compare their entire library, Cameron would win. It's just that Scott's highs are so much higher. 'Best director of all time' higher. |

Still though... why do these threads always come down to Cameron Vs. Ridley? Is it because they both do genre films? |

But you are absolutely right about when it is hit, it is out of the park. Hopefully we get another KOH:DC or Alien with this. Though I wouldn't mind something enjoyable and good either. Shows where my normal hype levels are for this too. Heh. |

So, how would everyone rank Ridley's filmography. I'd rate his historical dramas in this order;
Kingdom of Heaven:DC Gladiator The Duellists 1492: Conquest of Paradise White Squall Robin Hood Alien and Blade Runner above all these and as for the rest, I'm not quite sure on the order. Although, I am quite fond of Legend. |

... yeah, this. Or, more accurately, somebody else just starts the argument and we wade in, axes poised, and fight until we're the only ones fighting. More accurately still, I'm just trolling in this thread. Sculli and I rarely fight anymore. It's actually quite heartbreaking.
I rate his work thusly: Blade Runner: Final Cut Kingdom Of Heaven: Director's Cut Alien Other cuts of Blade Runner The Duellists Thelma and Lousie Black Hawk Down (I don't give a shit about how biased and un-political it was in its portrayal of the enemy, it's the most convincing film in the 'a few hours with a single squad' genre ever) Gladiator American Gangster I'll have to re-watch the rest though because it's been ages.

I guess im biased in a way cause i really just dont like Cameron when he speaks pretty much about anything and his mentality making movies. I hate Avatar with a passion and everything it represents so as far as future projects go (after fuckin re-releasing Titanic in 3D) i just dont care about whatever he does next, and considering what's in line for him i dont think i'll ever will. The way he thinks about movies and mostly the way on how to achieve what he supposedly wants are pretty much the opposite of what i think, and it reflects on his movies so i dont like them. Ridley is still great, has his head in the right place, and as you said his highs just blow Cameron out the fuckin water. |

Nolan took one of the worst comic franchises and made it bigger than 99% of movies. fans of both have the right to be arrogant |

I haven't been to the theater in years, but I'm planning to see this. I've never seen a 3d movie, but what exactly is the appeal? Is it like a definitive version, or does it just give you a bad headache? That's pretty much what I remember of 3d stuff.

Ridley Scott, the greatest visual director of all time, says it's better that way. You shut your mouth and listen.

Now if the character of Godfrey was omitted (didn't even exist during that period of the crusader era, inspired by Godfrey of Bouillon from the First Crusade) and Liam Neeson was chosen to play Balian instead, well it would be a different story. |

Speaking of KOH:DC, this sword fight between Guy and Balian was just brilliant.

But the lack of gravitas was the point! You don't need gravitas to be inspirational or to rise to a challenge.

That, and no matter how bad a film he releases is, it'll always look amazing. It's why I'm always cautious to say 'greatest visual director of all time' rather than simply 'greatest director'. |

He doesn't write his movies, so he is dependent on havinga good script. In the period between Titanic and Avatar, he may have made bunch of lesser films, but he also did Gladiator, KoH and Matchstick Man. He's bound to be hit and miss, but it's the hits that counts; it's not as good for his brand, but not everyone is Terrance Mallick or Cameron, i'd rather have more movies.

He's certainly up there with David Lean as 'greatest visual director of all time'.

Here's an interview with David Twiss, model and actor who portrays one of the Engineers. Just a fair warning but the interview does contain a fairly BIG MAJOR SPOILER including the opening of the film.
Interview with Daniel Twiss Also two new TV spots. The first one is spoiler heavy especially given one particular scene that was being talked about in the other thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbgam...layer_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRyad...layer_embedded |

But I actually agree. It was a godsend when the OT limitation was set to one week rather than two (or even a month), but I still think that isn't enough. Two days before seems fine to me. |
