Comedy Bang! Bang! on IFC–FriJun8 10/9c–Scott Aukerman, Reggie Watts & so many more
#1
![]() Comedy Bang! Bang! is a new comedy on IFC based on the long-running podcast of the same name. Host Scott Aukerman (creator of Between Two Ferns and writer on Mr. Show) and band leader Reggie Watts (famed improvisational musician/comedian) bring on well-known celebrities like Amy Poehler, Zach Galifianakis, Jon Hamm, and so many more along with less-well-known figures like Don DiMello and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Hot Saucerman and Reggie Watts do a real interview show while doing an interview show parody while breaking away completely for insane sketches. The podcast is seriously hilarious and everything I've seen of the show so far makes it look, at the absolute least, unique. Just as the audio version is for comedy nerds, the show seems to sporadically blend all kinds of comedy so you never really know what to expect from Reggie and Shop Talkerman. The first season begins airing on Friday, June 8th at 10/9c. But right now you can watch the entire second episode on IFC's site. Do it now! Other videos and stuff to check out beforehand:

And I think it takes a while for people to appreciate what Aukerman does. I didn't like him much at first, but the more episodes you listen to the more you realize how deftly he guides the improvisation and how well he sets others up for awesome jokes. I think the fact that he's so key to the structure of the show while being pretty funny on his own is cool.

I just started listening to this after someone in the Community thread linked to it and really liked it. Ill have to check out the show on IFC.
That game where they each yell out a word and then continue yelling out words until they yell out the same one is awesome. |

I didn't think much of Scott Aukerman at first either. I didn't dislike him, but thought he was just okay. But after a while I got to really enjoy what he does. The show would never work without him and CDR/CBB is one of my favourite things ever. It really sucks I can't see this. I wish I was American sometimes. |

Never listened to the podcast. Just watched Ep2. I actually enjoyed what I saw, and would tune in again.
Is the podcast a "you had to be there" sort of thing, or could I go back and start listening from the beginning and still enjoy it fully?

I wouldn't recommend starting from the beginning, but jump around the archives and listen to episodes with guests you want to hear. That's how I got into it.

Do as Banana Kid did and jump around randomly or just listen to episodes featuring specific people you enjoy until you get a good taste. If you enjoy them I'd recommend starting from the beginning so you could bathe in the Good One. -- Just watched episode 2. Reggie's trailer. lols Also The Choctaw was on the nerdist this week. Nice retrospective chat with him and Hardwick about CDR the stage show up to CBB on IFC - http://www.nerdist.com/2012/05/nerdi...cott-aukerman/

I'd highly recommend listening to any episode with Harris Wittels, Paul F. Tompkins, and Andy Daly. There are plenty of wonderful ones without those three, but they're my consistent favorites. Oh, also, listen to the Halloween episodes. Those are great. Hah I'm looking forward to Cake Boss (cake boss) the most. Wouldn't mind some Werner either. |

Oh gawd, please have Bob Ducca as a guest. The first time I heard him go through the list of ailments he suffers from I nearly had a stroke.

Yeah I've never listened to Affirmation Nation much. It's funny for a while but I'd rather get the schtick in small doses.

I still call the podcast Comedy Death Ray. Never got on board with Bang Bang.
I liked the Amy Poehler episode a lot. Reggie Watts being such a big part of the show had me a little worried (not a fan) but it turned out really good. Hopefully it's successful. It doesn't seem like it can last but IFC is usually pretty good at letting things find an audience. |

It doesn't really capture what makes the podcast amazing (the longform character work and constant inprov required to keep a character going for an hour, as well as the structure, informality, and conversational tone that makes the non-character guests hilarious, etc), but at the end of the day that's a good thing.
It is so much better that it is a tight twenty minutes filled with sketches and visuals and all the stuff Scott can't do on the podcast. If it was just a pale imitation of the podcast, it would be funny, but not nearly as good. And it's great that it's on IFC. I don't think it could have happened anywhere else on tv. Less pressure to perform ratingswise, and they definitely let Scott have free reign to make a thing that is both a pure distillation of his comic voice and a platform for him to showcase his hilarious friends, just as he's been doing for years with the podcast and live show. |

Nice to see a thread. Every clip I've seen so far has been pretty hilarious, I'm surprised it transitioned so well to the screen.
I hope this show eventually has Brett Gelman on, he's one of my favorites and the "fued" between him and Scottabot is one of my favorite running gags. In the clip where he plays Webber he looks nothing like Webber, which I think makes it funnier, because nobody acknowledges it. |

We've gotten Don Dimelo, and Dame Sir ALW is confirmed by the ten minute preview. And Huell Howser is going to be on the premiere episode, if I am not mistaken. With Andy Daly, PFT, and James Adomian accounted for, I think we can expect a Seth Morris character and possibly a Nick Kroll if we're lucky. What characters are you guys hoping for? My wish list is Bob Ducca, Chupacabra, Cake Boss, Jesse Ventura, Bobby Bottleservice, and Ice T (who unfortunately is extremely unlikely, as was pointed out a few posts up (it would be pretty funny to just have PFT do the voice with no skin alteration actually)).

It would be nice to have Harris on, Foam corner is hilarious.
He was just of You Made it Weird but he was pretty negative on the limited phone joke stand up he's been doing. Presume he's going to go back to Parks since Susan 313 doesn't appear to be going anywhere. I really don't expect it to happen but a Cyber Thug takeover would be nice. |

I want them to construct Harris an actual foam corner.

For the sake of continuity, it will be nice to have a new episode of CBB show up in my iTunes on Fridays as well as Mondays.

That false alarm was just a false sense of security. They dropped IFC. For anyone interested, there's a number set up to organize complaints at 855-8-KEEP-ON.

Great premiere. There wasn't even a dud sketch; I thought "Tsk-Tsk Attaboy" was gonna suck but that twist ending was gold. And the character guests randomly talking about fountain Pepsi was awesome, the kind of stuff I love in the show and was worried wouldn't carry over enough.
Oh, and Gillian Jacobs as a freedom fighter for a minute was great. The games work too. It's exactly like we were told, a full CBB game wouldn't work on a half-hour, but a joke game can be hilarious and short. Now I'm kinda sad I watched the second ep already though, means I have to wait two weeks for more. Next week there is more Bunk though, I expected nothing from that show but it was pretty funny. |
