The 2012 Roland Garros FRENCH OPEN
#1
![]() ![]() ![]() Last year, the big question was simply whether Djokovic' big huge streak would ever end. It did. This year, the narratives are less clear-cut, but the man can get his very own "Novak Slam". As always the Parisian clay gives us hopes of surprises and freak runs. The clay season so far is probably most remembered for the controversy over Madrid's slippery blue stuff. Hopefully this clay behaves like clay.May 22 - June 10 Defending champions![]() Li Na ![]() Rafael Nadal -------------------------------- THE FAVOURITES![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Serena Williams (5) 3.50 Victoria Azarenka (1) 5.00 Maria Sharapova (2) 6.00 Petra Kvitova (4) 9.00 Li Na (7) 11.00 Serena going in with the 2nd longest win streak on clay since the turn of the century. OMG, I totally forgot about a GAF thread. lol
Anyway, I'm so pumped. I really hope Novak can win here to he can achieve his "Djoker/Novak/Nole/Djokovic Slam". He was primed to do it last year so hopefully without the distraction of "the streak" he can go in with less pressure. |

Can't believe del Potro and Berdych could meet in the 4th round. Whoever wins (if they meet) gets Federer in the quarters.
Djokovic, barring a complete catastrophe, should easily make the semis. Murray, as far as I'm concerned, is on upset alert in every single round, lol. I wouldn't be surprised if Andreev took him out in the 2nd round. Also, Murray is in the same quarter as Ferrer. Nadal should easily make the final.

Rafa will win this, unfortunately. Djokovic isn't as good this year, Federer has that mental block. It will take a power hitter stepping up, really going for it and having a lot of luck (Tsonga or del Potro if they can make it?) to beat Nadal.
Women's will be one of the "big three", Serena the deserved favourite. |

After Nadal wins it this year they should name the trophy after him.
His dominance at the French Open has been amazing. |

Dream final would be Federer vs Murray, realistically it's Djokovic vs Nadal. On ladies side, I'd love to see Radwanska and Kvitova in the final, but realistically it's going to be Williams def. Azarenka. |

I'm starting to get the feeling that this may be Nadal's 7th RG, too.
(from MTF): Seeds in bold: Main Draw [1] Djokovic vs. Starace Hewitt vs. Kavcic Qualifier vs. Qualifier Qualifier vs. [30] Melzer [22] Seppi vs. Davydenko Kukushkin vs. Gulbis Qualifier vs. Muller Darcis vs. [14] Verdasco [11] Simon vs. Harrison Malisse vs. Baker Andujar vs. Hanescu Cipolla vs. [18] Wawrinka [28] Troicki vs. Bellucci Fognini vs. Mannarino Stebe vs. Souza Qualifier vs. [5] Tsonga ------------------- [3] Federer vs. Kamke Ungur vs. Nalbandian Dancevic vs. Klizan Mahut vs. [26] Roddick [23] Stepanek vs. Qualifier Clement vs. Bogomolov K.Beck vs. Kubot Qualifier vs. [15] Lopez [9] Del Potro vs. Montanes Roger-Vasselin vs. Pospisil Ferrero vs. Dasnieres de Veigy Qualifier vs. [21] Cilic [31] Anderson vs. Machado Prodon vs. Qualifier Llodra vs. Garcia-Lopez Sela vs. [7] Berdych ------------------- [6] Ferrer vs. Lacko Paire vs. Ramos Dodig vs. Haase Blake vs. [27] Youzhny [20] Granollers vs. Qualifier Jaziri vs. Petzschner Mathieu vs. Phau Qualifier vs. [10] Isner [16] Dolgopolov vs. Stakhovsky Volandri vs. Qualifier Young vs. Dimitrov Qualifier vs. [17] Gasquet [25] Tomic vs. Qualifier GIraldo vs. Falla Nieminen vs. Andreev Ito vs. [4] Murray ------------------- [8] Tipsarevic vs. Querrey Chardy vs. Lu Tursunov vs. Soeda Qualifier vs. [29] Benneteau [24] Kohlschreiber vs. Ebden Rochus vs. L.Mayer Chela vs. Baghdatis Lorenzi vs. [12] Almagro [13] Monaco vs. Rufin Rosol vs. Berlocq Qualifier vs. Becker Ramirez-Hidalgo vs. [19] Raonic [32] F.Mayer vs. Gimeno-Traver Qualifier vs. Karlovic Kunitsyn vs. Istomin Bolelli v [2] Nadal Nadal seriously has a cake-walk straight to the final. Closest thing to a threat Nadal faces is Raonic, who he would potentially face in the 3rd round. But Raonic has to get by Monaco first. I don't think Raonic is ready mentally for such a task. And regarding Isner, I think the hype has gone to his head and he's been losing to clowns left and right. But at least he doesn't have Nadal as a 1st round opponent this time. He COULD so some damage, but I'm just going to take a more of a "wait and see" approach before I make any predictions about him. And Novak....he's definitely not looking as good as last year. He has a good chance to get to the final but with the broken approach he took against Nadal in the last 2 clay finals, he undoubtedly gave Nadal some much-needed confidence. Just to compare, here are some of the stats from the last 2 Rome finals: Nadal Rome 2011: 15 winners, 22 UEs (-7) Rome 2012: 15 winners, 21 UEs (-6) Djokoic Rome 2011: 26 winners, 32 UEs (-6) Rome 2012: 22 winners, 41 UEs (-19) So Nadal improved +1 from the last final and Djokovic did extraordinarily worse, going -13. And that all was a product of Novak losing patience in the rallies and refusing to hit those 2, 3 or 4 extra balls. Novak was dictating many of the rallies this year but went for the kill shot much earlier this time around, and many of those kill shots were UEs. Nadal literally did NOTHING different. An improvement of +1 is essentially meaningless so I still say that the match hinges on Novak's willingness to engage Nadal like he did last year. He still has a shot. But if he still tries to end the rallies early (like Fed always does), Nadal has his 7th RG crown wrapped up. |

Like I said in the official thread, I'm a bit bored with mens tennis right now.
Rooting for my fellow country men (Melzer, Haider Maurer, Paszek and Patricia Mayer) which all will f''k majestically, like always. Since the prince of tennis isn't playing other dudes I'm rooting for are Young (lol, hes like 1-26 this year) Dolgopolov, Bellucci and of course Fedgod. On the womens side I root for the same ladies as always (Kirilenko*, Masha, Cirstea, Lisicki, Cornet, Radwanska and Wozzy and whoever plays good tennis) and for some odd reason my hate for Serena has turned into admiration. God knows why. *seen her live in action last year and my god she looks even ten times better when you're like a meter away, every dude on the court kept snapping like 10 pics per second it was hilarious. oh and nice OP Peru :D You have my blessing to ban anyone that is dissing womens tennis ;) |

30 year old Serena Williams has the longest winning streak on clay since early 2000's? Now I've heard everything. It really shows how great she is when she can still be dominant on her worst surface after turning 30. But on the other side, it also shows how great the women's field is.
;)
