Jon Favreau coming back to Iron Man 3... #1

.. As Happy Hogan again of course! :D

http://www.slashfilm.com/jon-favreau...an-iron-man-3/

Quote:
After doing double duty as an actor and director with the first two Iron Man films, Jon Favreau is coming back for Iron Man 3. He’ll just remain in front of the camera this time. Favreau will return as Happy Hogan, Tony Stark’s trusty driver who, in the comic books, eventually gets mutated into the Freak. That’s not likely to happen in this film, but his return shows a vote of confidence in new writer/director Shane Black and leaves the possiblity open in the future

I love you Shane Black

That shows class, Favreau. I was impressed he showed up at the Avengers-event, this just seals the deal.

I found him extremely annoying in Iron Man 2. As long as they cut his screen time down then whatever.

What? Didn't he have like 3 minutes screen time max?

You have no soul. He was one of the few redeeming elements of IM2!!

More than that IIRC. Off the top of my head he was one of the primary characters in:

1. Scene where Black Widow is introduced in the boxing ring.
2. Scene where Whiplash fights Iron Man in Monaco and before where he's driving down the track.
3. Scene where he and Black Widow go after Whiplash in Hammer's HQ. He even gets his own mini fight scene.

All the while trying to inject comedy value in to the film whenever he appears.

He was just shoehorned in as much as possible and it was irritating. Zero humour from his part in the film.

I was just wondering about this the other day. Glad he's doing this, shows real class. Marvel Studios really created quite a thing here. It has such a different feel to it than any other movie line.

He's been saying for months he'd be willing to come back to the role. I don't think there ever was hard feelings between him and Marvel. He was just kinda done with being part of all the MCU connection stuff that was being forced on him.

He got fired from directing Iron Man-films for Iron Man 2, even though direction was not what was wrong with it. Iron man was kind of his baby and Marvel/Disney took it away. Even more, he was quite open on how he would LOVE to direct an Avengers-movie, even though there was no real planning on such a film yet.
After IM2, he got scrapped from that too.

above is all to my best knowledge and I apologize for any and all errors

I thought Favreau left after wanting to direct his other movies, C&A and Magic Kingdom?

I don't think he had any hard feelings towards MCU due to him being an executive producer on The Avengers. Also, didn't he help create Agent Coulson's character specifically for MCU?

Here's a little article about what went down:

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/How-I...vel-20003.html

I'm pretty sure since then Favreau and Marvel made up and Favreau went on record saying he would accept coming back to the movie as an actor.

Favreau clearly wanted to do Iron Man more as a self containted trilogy ala Spider-Man or Batman. Styles clashed with Marvel's demands and Favreau's wishes and resulted in Iron Man 2. Iron Man 1 was pure Favreau.

Marvel does owe him for begining the franchise. Favreau picked out Downey Jr. too as well. There would be no MCU without Favreau's success with Iron Man 1.

He did get an executive producer credit in Avengers, so maybe he gets a little kick back from it's success.

What happened to IM2. It was such a mess, and it really could have been good. It seemed so rushed, and the Avengers theme messed with it so much.

I really didn't feel the latter part of that. People bring up Avengers, but I think they handled all that tie-in just fine. The problem was more the former; rushed and unorganized. Felt like they didn't really know where they were going with the movie, be it his partying life style, him on the cusp of death, the enemy, etc. Just wasn't structured as coherently as it could have been.

Though I still think it gets undeserved bad rap on GAF. Definitely not a bad movie, still better than CA for example. Just not as good IM1.

I think it shows- in every review, EVERY review, it's compared to Iron Man 1 in some way or another, whereas Cap had no precedent. I definitely preferred it to that movie, especially comparing their big action set-pieces.

Iron Man 2 is the most disappointing Marvel Studios movie to me because as of that time I didn't expect Marvel Studios movies to be mediocre. Sure, TIH was fairly mediocre and dull but I just figured eh it's a reboot whatever.

IM2 really exposed the seams in Marvel Studios plans and ambitions to me (and to a lot of other people as well).

Thor was woefully droll so by the time the godawful CA came out my expectations were on the floor and I wasn't really too disappointed - just saddened that this apparently passes for a good superhero movie nowadays.

So, what will this movie be about after Avengers anyway? Will the rest of the team be on vacation leaving Stark alone to save the planet or something? Or will it be a dramedy with him and Potts getting maried and having marital problems with his hero duty, drinking and partying?

This is true, and funny since from what I've read Iron Man 1 didn't even really have a script when they started shooting.
