let's say if someone tried to convince me with a video that uncharted 3's water is real there is no way they can fool me, but that might happen with JC2's. Water is an huge factor for me in graphics, it sure influence me to judge how good the graphics in the game is... i freakin' love water in gaming. |

The water falling into the gap in the first 20 seconds looks kinda... meh. Reminds me a lot of Bioshock's water which I wasn't a big fan of.

Hell, both of those game have better water than a lot of games this gen. (Not the games in this thread of course, but still)
Also, there was a river in Onimusha 2 that looked 100% real, I think it might have been a video capture of a real river. |

Probably the most dissapointing aspect of the game given how present water is in the Wind Waker World. Coming from MArio Sunshine to watch what's more or less a blue flat shaded texture sucked.

How about a little appreciate for art instead of just horsepower? The game looks fantastic.

Now this blew some heads in 96 and it influenced play elements of the game something that most mentions here don't acomplish. Hydrophobia used water with game mechanics in mind but i dont remember if the water lokked good.
Game has a nice art style, water was right there with sewer material in atractiveness. |

Man I disagree wildly. Water in Wind Waker was beautiful and fit the game world perfectly.

I appreciate the effort Bombadil, but how about we just describe the effects to each other and then we can just use our imagination until the gif making pros get in here. :D
Better yet, just send me the links and I will try it with irfran. That's all I have installed right now but I will give it a shot. |

Play it soon! I've got 15 or 20 hours in it, a lot of that time spent just flying through the environments. One of the prettiest games of this gen IMO. Love the vibrant color palette.

I'm not actively selecting any compression settings. I think Vdub just captures it in a very shitty way. I'm using the HD youtube videos (which I know are somewhat compressed anyway, but they're of higher quality than what shows up on vdub in the AVI formart. |

You need to have an Nvidia card to get the Cuda water effects. Game still looks awesome without them though.
I've never used vdub for gifs, but I use it for all the videos I make. Considering how complicated it is to use on videos I'm guessing that there is some setting for quality that is near impossible to find that would fix these gifs. Try irfan. It is a little bit more user friendly than vdub.

Just cause 2 and modded Crysis right behind it. Uncharted 3 and 2 is probably next, but still very impressive. |

Last gif I make with vdub. Yes, yes, still shitty. Just appreciate what it would look like.
Edit: Never mind, that was too shitty, and slow. I'm using both vdub and gimp to do this shit. All that work for nothing.

Hydrophobia has some good looking water, even if it can go a bit wonky some times. It's completely dynamic though, not scripted like some of the water events in other games
