Errm sorry i totally forgot what mods are running in that.
I knows its a custom TOD, and obviously a new Water shader, im sure some quick googling will get you the answer, i uninstalled Crysis when i got Crysis 2 DX11 so i stopped keeping track of all the mods.

Morrowind was the first game that impressed me with nice looking water:

And Medal of Honor: Allied Assault with its explosions:

Agree that Reach's water was super disappointing after HALO 3's amazing wetness.

Also, kudos to those posting Super Mario Sunshine, but the fact is that more than half of the charm of the water in that game comes from it being the best sounding water in any game to date.

Definitely Crackdown and Red Faction: Guerrilla for explosions.

If you feel comfortable calling the truth "nonsense" then by all means do it and sleep better at night. You stipulate that the game is about "pirates, oceans and sailing" but you don't do many of the interesting activities that such setting could provide. No good ship to ship battles, no fishing. There's no diving, since the water is a blue shortcut layer so to not invest time generating an interesting ocean floor. Not having to do much in the ocean is one of the main complains actually.

Sorry but you can't cover the sun with a finger. Wind Waker setting was a smart (or lazy depending of your pov) way to solve a development schedule and design process issue. Nintendo needed their key gaming franchises on time to not repeat it's N64 release schedule nightmares.

RCT3 uses also water in agreat manner, even more in the soaked expasion. You can create scenery under the water to make rides like the submarine and the crystal passageways. It also looks really good, obviously nothing amazing like some of the examples in this thread but for a themepark builder sandbox it looked awesome, with ripples when things fall, the rain or the boat rides that go above it, and under the water the rays of sun or firework lights reflecting and refracting. Pools were used also really well, in fact the worst water on the game was sadly the one in the water rides (like the flumes or the rapids).

Any other games apart from Cryostasis and Just Cause 2 using PhysX to simulate water? It tendws to produce really impressive results.

Yeah that Crysis mod stuff is something else.

I'm yet to see a really convincing waterfall. In fact, Wind Waker's look as good as anyone's, because it's not bound to the realm of realism. Hopefully in the next few years someone will pull that off.

I can't wait until real time, actual fluid simulation is implemented in games. Its been a tech demo for so many years but yet it has never been put into any major game.

PhysX has been enabling stuff like that in games like Cryostasis, Alice Madness Returns and Borderlands 2. Nothing on a massive scale though, but still ridiculously impressive nonetheless.

Yeah, the CUDA/Apex/Physx stuff in those is amazingly good but I still can't await the days of full-scale fluids.
The most recent fluid simulation by nvidia (which also featured ray-tracing) (with a very small amount of liquid) was running on 2 690s and looked like it was sub 20fps.

Not enough sprites, but beyond that, these consoles won't be able to do actual water displacement.

Just Cause 2 takes the cake for a blend of realistic look and behaviour. Crysis is on the same tier, Hydrophobia nails behaviour but doesn't have the same details (refractions, light interaction) and looks wonky sometimes.

Honourable mentions go to Uncharted for fantastic wet effects, Trine 2 for being completely interactive, Cryostasis for frozen/freezing water and Ico's puddle in front of the windmill takes the nostalgia award.

Bioshock water is fraudulent, all smoke and mirrors.

Yeah, the fluid simulation is insane in that game. Watching a frozen room defrost leaving pools of dynamic water on the floor was mindblowing. There's a few flash-back scenes that involved flooded rooms which also blew my mind.

Nothing comes close to Crysis, even if it is unmodded. The explosions in this game actually destroy the landscape like real explosions. This is the best kind of feedback you can get when shooting a rocket or throwing a grenade; you know that using those explosive weapons do a lot of damage and you use them differently than in other games where they just have a huge hitbox and that's it.

If only this game didnt run like crap on pretty much any system.
They really needed to release a patch that enable Quad Core.

Id love to see how it runs on a GTX670 with a dedicated PhysX card, on my 570 it runs pretty crappy.
