E3 Fighting game announcement speculation
#1
Fighting game fans, what do you think will be or will not be announced at E3?
Capcom We know we're going to hear something about SFXT. Tomoaki Ayano said he has a big secret to reveal at E3. I don't know if I should expect anything too big. The new costume and gem DLC is coming out on June 5th, so I have doubts that it'll be major game changing things. I don't think they'll announce that they're getting rid of gems after selling gem DLC or anything like that. Darkstalkers 4 - We've been hearing rumors about DS4 for years. I think if it is real, we will hear about it at E3. SFIV and MVC3 - I think Capcom is done with updating SFIV, but maybe MVC3 could get an update. Capcom VS SNK 3 - I think we have a better chance of seeing DS4 than seeing CVS3. Nintendo VS Capcom - I don't know if it would ever happen. Sakurai is definitely not making it. It sounds like Ono is not working on fighting games anymore. What's 8ting doing though? Capcom fighting games on Wii U - Wii didn't get any version of SFIV, MVC3, or SFXT. I'd love to see SSFIV:AE and UMVC3 on Wii U. I don't know about SFXT, that seems like a huge mess. I think there will be at least one Capcom fighter announced for Wii U. Namco We know we're going to hear about Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I think the Wii U Tekken will also be Tekken Tag 2. Tekken for 3DS showed up on a list last week too. Was that a mistake or is it actually another 3DS Tekken? If it is another game, I hope it has all the modes and features the first one was lacking. |

i believe it's almost time for SEGA to reveal VF6.
if not in this E3, 99.9% in next JAMMA in September (at least the first glimpse of it). usually SEGA tend to reveal VF games in AM Shows, but maybe they will do something like this in this E3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKTeRUCtO-M |

I wonder how many posts we'll get through before someone tries to argue with you. |

This. Besides, modern day Capcom probably wouldn't be able to market a new Vampire game, anyway. They've effectively burned the bridge on the very Japanese arcade market that would likely appreciate a new game in that series more than any one else. Certainly more than the Western market, in any case.
ANY WAY...beyond the likes of more announcements to that which we already know (DOA5, TTT2, Persona 4 Ultimate), I don't know if we can really expect anything else, much less anything new. Unless Netherrealm decides to unveil something... |

Capcom knows that a lot of fans were disgruntled with the release if SFxT. To win back their fans Capcom will is willing to release the planned character DLC for $19.95 instead of $19.99. Capcom sees this discount as an apology to its fans and knows it will bring life back to SFxT.

I'm looking forward to another 2-4 character reveals for DOA at E3. Jann Lee needs to show his face already. Namco will probably talk more about TTT2 at E3. Nintendo might just reaffirm that work on Smash Wii U and 3DS is progressing steadily. I'm not expecting any trailers or big info from them. The post below about Sony all stars is also true. I definitely expect them to talk about that title.
I couldn't care less about Capcom right now. Good post. Would read again. :)

The obvious ones would be Sony all star Royal Battle and a Capcom WiiU game.
I'm sure we'll see some surprises too. I'll take a guess (and a dream) that the NRS game is Killer Instinct 3. |

I think the safe bet for any fighting game announcements coming up at this E3 will be Darkstalkers 4. They've teased it, Ono has expressed a ton of interest for it, and SFxT development has presumably been finished for quite some time. I would expect a cinematic trailer with maybe some screenshots at any sort of official announcement at E3.
Niitsuma's team is what interests me most though, they've been working on Vs. games since their conception I think and they handled the development of both Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Assuming they haven't been in collaboration with Ono's team in the development of the new Darkstalkers I would say it's plausible that they could be working on a Tatsunoko vs. Capcom 2 or even a new IP. Anything related to a Marvel update doesn't seem to be possible given licensing issues, I think Activision has the rights to make any marvel related game for the next few months so the time frame doesn't seem to be meshing with another disc update. We've seen a really decent amount of success in the downloadable market for fighting games as well. I can only imagine that the retro online updates that Capcom/SNK have been releasing have done reasonably well and I genuinely feel the market has changed after the release of Skullgirls. It was a completely new IP with a decidedly polarizing art style that has garnered a lot of support from the fighting game community. I'd be very interested in seeing if this sort of budget type of fighting game gets more interest from other indie or even established developers. |

I'm keen enough as it is for VF5:FS, let alone a new one :D |

I wouldn't mind a sequel. But seeing how even the original arcade release in Japan didn't exactly top popularity charts, I don't think we'll see a sequel.
That said, at the beginning of the year, Niitsuma had this to say:
Quote:
If that's at all true, I still wouldn't necessarily expect such an unveiling at E3. |

Who said I was allowing or not allowing anyone to make fighting games? Obviously, I have no control over who makes what games. I'm just speculating about some games. That's not even all the fighting games I like.

VF5 was first revealed in E3 2005 and officially in JAMMA 2005 but the game wasn't in operation for Arcades until July 2006 and later on it was released for the PS3 in February 2007. so it's been 6 years since VF5 was first released and we are still waiting for the first details of the next installment. this is already a new record for the series, the gap between VF3-VF4 & VF4-VF5 was about five years.

I think Street Fighter VS Mortal Kombat has a better chance than Killer Instinct by NRS.

Nintendo Vs. Capcom is all I want to see. Say what you want but having popular characters like Link and Samus alongside obscure choices like Saki Amamiya or Mach Rider could make for an interesting fighting game. Big difference between this game and a Super Smash Bros experience. Plus the game is guaranteed to sell.

I'm guessing no new fighting game announcements from Capcom at least. A third version of MVC3 is probably pretty likely but they will hold off on that announcement till comic-con like with UMVC3. Darkstalkers is a maybe I suppose but I still doubt it. I bet they will talk about SFxT for Vita though. Oh, I could see them acting like the disc-locked characters are a huge surprise as well and hyping that as a SFxT expansion even though we all know the truth there.
Namco I do see making some announcements. New info on Tekken Tag 2 and I am guessing a second version with more characters of Soul Calibur V (and/or a dlc expansion). If you want to count Smash Bros then I think there is a fair chance Nintendo will show something of Smash 4 at E3. That's pretty much it though...I wouldn't really expect much for this genre this year.

UMK9/MK10/MKX/MK2
Some form of update to 9 with a lot of little fixes, 2D hitboxes, trades, toggles for all the kombat kodes in the options menu, better online, and a new story mode and some other things that 9 was lacking like endurance, some kind of versus CPU, and a training mode that actually works as intended. Also new characters. Boraicho, Havik, Frost, Tremor, Goro, Mavado, Robo Smoke, Reiko, Tanya, and a few completely new characters. |

Oh if Smash 4 is shown I don't expect game-play in any way, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a pre-rendered video essentially like what the Brawl reveal was. That can then set up Sakurai to re-start the Smash Bros. Dojo so we can follow the development of the new game! /whishful thinking
