I think you're right in skipping AC1, if you are not a big fan of doing the same thing over and over again. AC1 has three distinct types of killings and as soon as you have seen all of them, its just repetition. AC2 is the best one imo, but Brotherhood isn't a lot worse. Revelations added some lame tower defense bs and was extremely short, I would not recommend that one. So AC2, ACB it is.

Play Brotherhood (plus its DLC for some hints towards AC3)
You could skip Revelations if you want. The real Revelations come in the Lost Archive DLC for that game. Plenty of playthroughs of it on Youtube (including mine) Watch Embers. You'll be all set. |

![]() Heh good one, you had me for a second there. In my opinion the best way to do it is to play brotherhood, not worry about the story anyway because it is mostly stupid, then skip 1, 2, revelations and 3.

A lot of people here played the games one after the other in short time, that's why they get tired, I play 1 Assassins Creed a year around Thanks giving and enjoy every second of the game, if you don't play Revelations you'll miss a beautifuly crafted Constantinopoly and the wrap up of Ezio's Saga, as well as Altair's.
People hate on the defense tower minigame that you can easily skip for 90% of the game, and whem you have your assassins at high level you'll never even have to play DT again, and that happens early to mid game, AND the bombs, you don't have to use them at all if you don't want, I found the useful on a couple of really tight situations, tho, this is coming from someone who made 100% sync on all games ;) I highly recommend that you take a break between games of at least a couple of months, unless you feel like crazy that you need more.

I know there are lots of fans but to me playing about half of 2 is enough. I though it was a great game btw, especially given how shit 1 was. But you have pretty much seen it all at that point. In any case leave BIG gaps between playing the games and treat each entry as a "every other year" re play through of the same game. About the only way to enjoy them without getting fatigued.

OP: I played AC1, it is indeed skippable. Not that it's a bad, but you have to always be aware of who is watching you, because it won't say specifically. Therefore, getting around is tedious, killing anyone is a chore, and fighting is basic. I can't quite remember, but I think all you really get are throwing knives, no arrow or anything fancy. But it's been years since my play through. Played AC R recently, it's a beautiful game. But as stated earlier, tower defense really sucks. The sad thing is, the more property you buy and renovate, the more the Templars grow aware of you and attack your defenses. So you're stuck paying off heralds after every purchase. Have yet to make a bomb, I have tons of bomb parts and nothing to do with them. Maybe just try a youtube a playthrough... I think that's what I might end up doing. Edit: WTF @ Black-Stride & ToddHunter... either alt issues or hive mind meld. Weird.

Brotherhood is fantastic. All the changes they made to the series and with all the things they added are things that have become a AC staple. Thats what made Revelations such a bummer in most peoples eyes, its that it didnt add anything to the series like the sequels before it. 2 and BR are my favorites, with 2 having the best story/setting and BR just being a better game.

Yep, I think as long as you don't play brotherhood and revelations back to back, they are both easily worth playing. Revelations even has the altair stuff.

rev also added a lot of new animations for the npc/civilians. people playing cards, fishing, sitting and chatting - awesome stuff like that. the lightning and fog use is also beautiful, constantinople is a real sight. if i remember correctly it marks the first time that the environment art director of AC1 has returned to the series. the difference is really noticeable, rome looks quite poor by comparison.

I'd say skip both Brotherhood and Revelations if you can. They're both lazy full priced (at the time) expansion packs that do not extend Desmond's story all that much, you can just look the plots up.
If you have to play them then just play Revelations for the new mechanics like traveling with the hook. It makes getting around a bit quicker and less tedious. Brotherhood is almost a complete copy of AC2 and at least Revelations has a new city. |

I loved Brotherhood, but I didn't even finish Revelations. Actually, Revelations was such a drag that I'm probably not even going to get 3. So yah..I'd skip that if you're looking to avoid franchise fatigue.
Also, the first game is underrated and the second game is overrated. In other news, the entire series is overrated, as well. The traversal mechanics are cool, the characters are fun and both the historical and modern aesthetics are great, but the overarching story is pretty stupid. |

It depends on how much AC3 is going to break from the AC mold. Personally, I wouldn't want to play more than one AC game a year as they are currently (AC2-Revelations). They're just too similar to go through one after the other. As a result, I would only play Brotherhood if I thought AC3 was going to differentiate itself enough from the other games, which very well may be the case. Otherwise, just read about the story online.

Who cares about Desmond? Ezio's interactions with the Borgias in Brotherhood make the game worth playing on its own.

I liked all of them, sure rev suffers from samey-samey syndrome but imo it is still a fun game. I don't understand the constant complaining about rev on gaf, but it is far from a bad game. In fact I enjoyed rev far greater than brohood.
Edit: To not use bombs in rev is like never using mushrooms in mario. Bombs change the gameplay and stealth dynamic to such a drastic degree, I don't understand one would choose not to use the m.

People telling you to play AC1 are masochists. I beat that ga,e and never hated a game somuch by the end. Each new area makes you do the exact same shit over and over and there is very little variety.
Brotherhood is better than I thought it would be, but I think you'd be fine just going straight into 3 (maybe watch YouTube clips of the Desmond sequences from Brotherhood and Revelation). There is much more interesting stuff to play. If ou already olayed AC2, you saw most of the cool gameplay mechanics. Don't waste your time. |

I played 2 (skipped 1) two years ago and while I enjoyed the unique setting and plot, the game itself is pointless. It's not stealth, not platforming, ridiculously easy, and terrible controls. I knew after platting the game I had enough of AC to skip the annual cashin. I might check out 3 when it drops in price though because you have to admit the setting is unique again. So just wait for 3 imo.

as long as you don't play AC1, you're good.
since you played AC2, play brotherhood and if you really like what you played go for revelations, although it's not as good as the previous two. but for the love of god, don't play AC1, at least on consoles, i heard they added more mission types in the PC version, so that one might be okay. |
