His company did, and mine did too-and I'm also at a Fortune 500 company. The more impressive story would be about hearing a Fortune 500 company switching from iPhone/Windows/Android TO Blackberry.

I'm contracting for one right now, still BB and it sucks. What double sucks is that I still have a support PAGER. Last Fortune 500 comp I contracted for 5 years at is still BB all the way until today. My dad has worked for 4 or 5 in a row and while his last stint now has iphones for enterprise email, his current one still has BB only. Using the fortune 500 list is only maybe good for an indicator of size, and not necessarily profitability and the resulting budget that can fund corporate-wide projects. The last 2 comps I mentioned contracting for and my dad's current one all had to get bankruptcy projection at one point in the last 5 years or so.

Still, it doesn't look good for RIM at all. The company seems to be circling the drain at this point and I don't see how they can avert it.

I got an invitation to their BB OS 10 event in my town next week and I just tossed it in the trash. It's not going to be relevant soon.

Let me know how it is. There is no way I'm getting it day one after seeing how polished the playbook was at day one. If it is still around after a year then maybe.

It probably wont get as much apps, so if thats important then it probably isnt a good idea. But after the initial excitement of the app store Im back to using my smartphone strictly for calls, texts, browsing. Only app I still use is shazam.

Did you explain they have 78 million subscribers and growing? They have over $2B in cash and no dept? They are but 6 months from releasing a phone at the front line of mobile technologies? Or, did you tell them they should do a little research instead of listening to the Apple owned media? RIM will not cease operations. They will become more agile. Yes they will likely have an operating loss this quarter. However, that is expected for an organization going through a total transformation. The share price is based on misinformation and does not reflect the true state of the company. The loss of US customers is problematic but does not mean the death knell. It just means they have to become a smaller company.

I chuckled at the "Appled owned media" part, but then I remembered when Nintendo did that pre-E3 video and showed smartphone web app. The Verge instantly assumed it had to be an iOS app and reported it as that, even those the phone in the video was clearly some Android phone.

Damn, the CrackBerry forums are hilarious to read. Seriously.

I was given an iPod touch recently from a friend of mine. He got himself an iPhone 4 and didn't need. Since my family is abroad, naturally, an iPod would be ideal to use apps that are not currently found on BB (namely Skype!). Having to experience both the BlackBerry and the touch, made me realize how much I HATE touch screen keyboards and love that of my BlackBerry... Forced to use the touch, I will admit I got attached to it, to the extend of even thinking of getting an iPhone. But I couldn't... My blood is BlackBerry now. It's not longer a matter of a smartphone, it's more of a cult. I smile/chat with people that carry BlackBerry (definitely those having the 9900) because they get it, they know what they want from a smartphone. This is the first time admitting that I wanted to go to an iPhone and I felt guilty so I wanted to share it with you guys. I can tell (and I hope) that BB10 lives up to the expectations. Almost everyone in my circle of friends has an iPhone and they look at my BlackBerry as if it is something of the past. I wish that would change and make BlackBerry "the" device. Can't wait for BlackBerry 10. BlackBerry for life!

If you've never had a long term relationship with the BlackBerry, you don't know any better, so it's easy to see how someone with very little smartphone experience can fall head over heels over the Apple. That said, because my experience with BlackBerry spans well over 10 years and three models, switching over to an iPhone was a less then satisfactory experience. The physical keyboard on a BB is second to none, and with Bridge capability if you happen to own a PlayBook, there is no sane reason to switch to other platforms.

I also learned a new word: RIMpire.

If BB10 fails, they'll probably have to sell, because everyone else already left.
