The combat isn't really the problem, its the fact that each game is trying to outdo the last by being bigger and more epic. And they already peaked. The game needs a new way to evolve |

And, yeah, I don't care about any of those either. |

Seeing that gigantic sea creature attack Kratos did absolutely nothing for me At one point this sort of thing was amazing. I remember how amazing the Colossus battle was But now. Its been done and done |

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be in this thread. I disagree. How many times do I have to tickle these goatmen with my Blades of Whatever-They-Are-Now till they die? So unsatisfying. Edit: And I just checked Dishonored. Looks interesting. Might buy during a sale if it's on PC.

I had the same impression as I had when playing GOW3: it's like the blades don't really 'connect' when hitting an enemy. There's something about the sound-design or the animations that make the sensation of hitting an enemy less satisfying than in GOW1 and 2. It's especially noticable with the bigger enemies; it's like the blades just go straight through them.
This was my main reason why I found GOW3 disappointing, and I'm sad to see it hasn't changed.

God damn this game looks so incredible. In the video when he lights on fire before that gif the impact noises he makes are much louder, like he is building up some kind of fury meter.
GOW is so freakin kick ass. Cant wait for this. |

What I don't like is how all the enemies are frozen while Kratos does his little over 9000 rage
He's in service of Ares, so all the enemies of Ares and Zeus. Presumably lots of Titans. |

Kratos screaming and slamming his blades into the ground is so bad ass. If you were surrounded by enemies and you had to wait for Kratos to finish that animation while everyone around you is attacking you/running away, then that animation now becomes a frustrating handicap. The have to be frozen for it to be worth it.

This is what's missing for me so far. Not that I think GoW has an amazing story or anything but I'd like to at least know the premise for why Kratos is out adventuring. Judging by the reactions I'm not the only one who needs more convincing that this isn't just an exercise in milking the franchise before the generation ends.

Is it just me or is the the new sounds especially when using the chains and the heavy attacks so much more satisfying sounding?
Also I like that they added weapons that you can pick up and punch/kick attacks, looks so good.

I just noticed this when watching the gameplay video again. At about 3:58 he launches two enemies and then zaps them with the time-stone thing and they fall down in slow motion. So there's another new wrinkle in the combat and another use for the new item.
It's funny, I thought for sure they'd use the time powers from GOW2 in GOW3 and expand on them, but maybe they couldn't get those mechanics worked out in time and now they're revisiting them. |

Yeah, that's why I said "another" use for the time stone. (I am calling his rewind power thing the "time stone" because I'm assuming he's holding a thing.) Sorry if I was unclear.
On the general subject: One thing I'm not thrilled about is that the big hammer enemies are back. I didn't like them much in GOW3, and it seems like they're the same here with the same finisher animation as well. In fact, I think they could stand to improve most of the encounters with big enemies who do not flinch. There's something unsatisfying about hitting them. I know the whole point of big enemies is that you have to stick and move, but I'd like to see an innovation there. I'm seeing lots of new animations in Kratos' basic combos, which is promising. I hope they've added some DMC style combos where pausing in the middle of a button sequence results in different attacks. |

I also thought he'd kill him with his own tusk. I don't think the exposed brain thing is that interesting or even that disgusting, just because of how simple and intact the brain looks. (Don't take this to mean I want to see flying brain bits. I don't play this game for the gore, though I have no problem with it.) |

Fuck. Bodies still disappear :( They need to take a page from NG2...battle are so much more epic if all evidence doesn't disappear 1.5 seconds after you kill an enemy :|
I'll probably buy it, but I really wish they'd push the franchise a bit. Barely any evolution from GoW1. |
