I was watching a stream from Planetside 2 last night and I'm kinda excited about this game. I don't have any relationship to the first game, but from what I've seen it looks pretty neat. For me it's also something new in terms of MMOs(I'm sure there's been others, but I haven't picked up on them).
It's definetly on my radar now. |

That lighting is stunning, especially at night. Very, very impressed. |

Combine that with the overall art direction and HOLY HELL! This game is just a cut above. Honestly one of the few cases where I've seen a developer take an arid environment and make it both colorful and varied instead of just lots of light brown rocks and sand.

Lol at the Galaxy ground-humping and Montez' continued dominance of the air.
Edit: New impressions: Massively: Crashing and Burning in Planetside 2 |

And this is just the desert continent, wait till we see the forest and snow ones (and whatever new ones will be introduced later). That new concept art that was released for the forest area was great. I love the art in this game.

Planetside 2 mobile app demonstration
Wow. You get your normal game app features, like stats tracking, but you also get a live territorial control map providing an overview of the current in-game conflicts. More importantly, you can listen/talk through the in-game VOIP remotely. So when your normal group of players plans a facility assault, you can be in the loop even if you don't have the game launched currently or if you are away from PC. |

You're in luck. Hopefully the VoIP is as good as it should be, with all the attention they've been focusing on it. Global, outfit, squad channels, even in-vehicle channels, apparently.
They clearly want people to use it instead of 3rd party VoIP exclusively. I just feel this game is doing so much right. |

That's the sniper class though, doubt you'll have many more choices. What's the problem with that? Pretty standard stuff.

In the original Planetside you could equip various weapons in different armor loadouts. I liked wearing heavy armor and walking around with a sniper rifle & chaingun. Meant I could snipe while I approached a target and swap over for indoors fighting. The loadout setup from the original was better than a class system. It gave you more flexibility and allowed you to tailor things very finely to your play style.
