Only beaten 3 zeldas (and all of them multiple times). 1, 2 and Link's Awakening.

I've never had that problem.

I've beaten the game many times -- I'd understand you having problems with locating items/dungeons/etc. before I'd expect problems with hitboxes...

The dungeons themselves have distinct enough designs as well.
Thanks guys... I'll see how it goes. I used to play this as a kid at my friend's house all the time, so I remember bits and pieces, but I'm not a big fan of wandering half-aimlessly through games, even when it's part of the design (one of the problems I had with Dragon Quest VII). I'll probably stop short of using a walkthrough - unless I get stuck - and hopefully my recent playthrough of A Link to the Past hasn't ruined me on this one. :)

I don't think that one is so bad compared to level 6. There's a hint in level 7 that explicitly spells out where level 8 is; it's not that hard to find.

I got around to beating the first one on the 3DS a few months ago. First and only NES game I'll probably ever beat. Of course with the guides and all to keep sanity.

Now that you mention it, yeah. It does tell you the screen in which Level 8 is. (Although the hint is on Level 6, not 7). Can't believe I didn't figure that one out all these years.
