Nintendo Gamer: Black Ops II coming to Wii U #1

There's a new issue of Nintendo Gamer that has a whole preview section for Black Ops II with "Preview Wii U" on the top.

Not sure if I can link the site as it contains a scanned image of the page. Mag error? Unintentional spilling of the beans? It'd be a pretty big mistake if it's just an error.

Now this is a reasonably big deal.

It's strange, Nintendo never mentioned this, and Sony pretty much ignored CoD Vita... do Microsoft have some sort of exclusive on showing Call of Duty off at events or something?

Very possible.

Any word on date? I'm expecting this in like March.

Seemed that way, but who really knows.

Eric Hirshberg's extremely awkward "no comment" pivot during his interview on GTTV made it seem, to me at least, that there was some underlying reason they weren't talking about CoD on Anyang other than Xbox. If Microsoft paid for exclusivity during E3, the CEO can't be on national tv talking about other platforms. But who knows.

Nintendo Directs and Fall Conference for the win, reaching the core audience immediatly and with no big spending: it's what they're doing now. NSMB2 has been announced on a freaking Nintendo Direct, just to say.

Yes - releasing downgrades on Wii and then stop releasing CoD games when Nintendo has a system out that can handle the HD version.

It's pretty clear the Microsoft had some kind of agreement with both Activision and EA Sports at this E3. Their main titles were never going to skip the Wii U.

I'm more interested to see EA's offerings, but this is pretty big for Nintendo.

The problem, though, is that people already have their established 360/PS3 tags/clans/etc for CoD.

I can't imagine why anyone would buy this unless it is drastically better than the other versions.

If it does come to Wii U (which lets face it, is pretty likely), I'd be keen to try out the new Strike Force game mode using the UPad.

Didn't bother with MW3 this time around and may well skip Black Ops II on the 360 and pick it up for Wii U instead.

Note the key words: FOR NINTENDO. They've finally got a system that can get a better version of a huge game. That's big for them. It won't last long because PS4/Nextbox are coming out in the years to come, but for now it's good for them.

Just because you may seemingly have something against Nintendo, doesn't mean it's not a big deal. Call of Duty is huge to the general public, no matter what system it's on.

If this really is true, it's one of the titles I'm buying with the Wii U myself.

Google "Wii U Pro Controller".

It's pretty much shaped like a 360 controller, with the sticks/dpad/buttons switched around, and different triggers.

But

Yeah, it is unfortunally some kind of a big deal for the WiiU to finally have third party support

(now the 3rd parties only need to make good games)

Call of Duty has established player bases on the PC, PS3, and Xbox.

I doubt many will migrate away just to play it on the Wii U.

This might be a big deal for the Nintendo exclusive gamer, but I doubt it moves the needle for those that already play COD on other platforms.

Skylander: check!
Call of duty: check!
Now we just need an esclusive 007 title (Skyfall?) and we can consider Activision on board.

It's not that the Wii U getting Black Ops 2 is that big a deal..it's that if it didn't it would have been a huge deal (ie, "Nintendo can't even get a game published onto any system with buttons?").

So it's more the prevention of that that is news, here. I can't word it well.

No. I'm looking at the scan. It appears legit, but it doesn't really say anything other than discussing the story. No interview with the developers, no talk of Wii U specific features.

I'm still skeptical, unless someone can point me to proof that this is a reputable magazine.

Either they had an exclusive information, or they speculated prior to E3 it would launch on Wii U. I agree we should be cautious about it.

It won't matter unless Nintendo has an actual strategy for convincing a certain percentage of the current PS3/360 core/dudebro/enthusiast/whatever audience that Wii U is an upgrade from those platforms.

It's (charitably) a few months too soon to say for sure, but the E3 showing - no launch-window exclusives aimed at that audience other than ZombiU, very few additional timely multiplatform announcements, further disconfirmation of multiplatform titles like LoS2 that ought to be coming - was not encouraging.

Anyway, BOII is almost certainly coming, but NGamer isn't really a credible source.

Call of Duty has an established player base on the Wii as well. Let's not purposefully ignore this please. Then there are those that did migrate to the PS3/360/PC versions because of the lack of DLC and a good way to patch the Wii games. Those problems being solved it's not crazy to think the Wii U version would have a higher sales then Wii versions in the end and people would migrate over. Especially if they are getting a Wii U system anyway.
