After all of the misogyny talk, "rape culture in games", Tomb Raider and Lollipop Chainsaw threads, I think it was inevitable to see this eventually.

I dunno about misandry, but patriarchal portrayals of masculinity are a huge problem. Men are constantly presented as violent, domineering, coercive, abusive, uncaring, emotionless, brash, etc. etc.

Game devs need to read some bell hooks.

We got some serious Goldilocks up in this shit.

"My videogames are too sexist!"

"My videogames are too violent!"

"My videogames are too white!"

We won't be satisfied until Zelda is black and has to rescue Link by diplomatically resolving conflicts with Bokoblins.

This is mostly a response to the Tropes Vs. Women

Creating videos for Youtube is hardly an expensive practice, so we feel that demanding money for what should be an altruistic venture is a morally reprehensible thing to do. Especially when there are so many great causes that DON'T get the attention and funding they deserve.

It's not a serious project, don't worry. It's point for point a troll response to what FeministFrequency is doing with her planned series on Tropes and Women in games.

But if someone in the future wanted to take a serious look at male stereotypes in games, there would be nothing wrong with that. It would certainly be better to actually raise those concerns in a coherent way instead of just bringing them up as a way to derail feminist arguments.

Edit: For those of you that don't know what they're trying to troll: look at this Kickstarter page.

I had to look up the term

Quote:
Misandry ( /mɪˈsćndri/) is the hatred or dislike of men or boys. Though the concept is ancient, the word did not appear in most dictionaries until the second half of the 20th century. It was commonly seen as a neologism in the early 1970s.[1] Misandry was formed from Greek misos (μῖσος, "hatred") and anēr, andros (ἀνήρ, gen. ἀνδρός; "man"). Misandry is the antonym of philandry, the fondness, love, or admiration of men.

I ...dont understand.

First it was action movies, then rap, now video games get examined in relation to its portrayal of the masculine identity to impressionable males. Seems fairly timely, I suppose.

It's not the the quality of the writing, but its message. It seems there are too many games in which so and so gender is stripped of their independence, humanity, etc.

It's fun to point out for projects, but when everyone starts doing it, I guess it's not cool anymore.

Ico is trying to say women are weaklings, so they don't get to use the stick.

Also, by withholding the stick Ico is saying women can't be transgendered, a clear attack on the LGBT community.

that is part of /v/'s (culture?) They have mystery box treads like every day and are promoting this on /v/ right now.

And its about time for there new cause that they all work on every so often. Their last cause was getting Launchpad and Einstein in the finals of the best sidekick contest on Gamespot. And they were successful

Dammit, this is a joke! I thought we could finally discuss important issues like why it always falls on men to save the world, the princess, or whatever? Or what about the whole concept of extra men. Sure don't worry our death because another identity-less fool will just step in our place. Sometimes if you look really hard they even hide them in the levels. Speaking of lack of identity, don't let game manufacture propaganda fool you. The current generation systems are more that capable of rendering hair. Yet time an time again we are given shaven heroes robbed of their individuality. How many bald women are in games? GIVE US BACK OUR HAIR YOU MISANDRY PROMOTING MOTHERFUCKERS!

If you use "misandry" in any serious context, you are the enemy.

Apart from that, some of this isn't disagreeable. We should be kicking off about all kinds of representations in games. High standards and all that.

Wow. People really are very angry that a woman has dared to make a video about how women are portrayed in video games, aren't they?

Perhaps she should have consulted with the men first, since that'd totally be respectful and not condescending and shit.

Seriously. Why are people getting so freaked out that a woman is talking about how she sees her gender being portrayed in their hobby? Film nerds have had this kind of stuff going on for years, and they seem to deal with it just fine.

Of all the places where misandry could possibly be occurring, video games are pretty much the last place anyone should look.

I can't wait for the sequel to this video series, in which we find out how straight white males are marginalized in video games, and how no one lets them shine.

I swear to god. Straight white male video gamers act like they're under attack. Guess what, guys. You're not. You literally hold every card in your hand. You can't start bitching that the guy across the table might win the game.

For me, its basically the "Internet is gonna Internet" I don't read too much into their craziness, for me, you can speak about any topic you like, as long as you are respectful. I honestly see no reason to condemn the girl, atleast not yet, she hasn't come out guns blazing calling gamers, designers, artists, directors, producers rape merchants and bigots. I'm playing through LC right now, and I'm not seeing the misandry. The most powerful and well versed zombie hunter is her father. Nick is lovable and despite being only a head, still commands Juliet's attention. Is there something I'm missing?
