I love art, not as much as books, but I do. This isn't art. This is someone's child throwing paint.

I've always hated modern art like this. It's not art, it's a fucking mess that requires no talent at all.

By this logic, pretty much every 5 year old who touches paint should have their work displayed.

I thought this would be awesome, but I just laughed. It looks like any old kid's fingerpainting to me. "Peacock in Space" is my favorite, though.

Aelita Andre, The Prodigal Fingerpainter

Edit:
Goddamn, look at the prices these sell for:
http://www.art-mine.com/artistpage/aelita_andre.aspx

I'm going to teach my kids to fingerpaint. How did they even determine the price?

I will never ever ever ever understand high art.

Its just paint splatters and nonsense.

I also couldnt get through the pretentiousness of the video, all I saw was close up shots of her and whimsical piano music.

If this bullshit is 'art' then everything is art.

A videogame is a movie you can control and be apart of, but its regarded as a childish thing and not art, yet people jizz them selves over someone spilling a paint bucket on some canvas.

YALL BE CRAZY.

Generally, my approach to abstract art first involves whether the artist had formal training, and then if their exploration into the genre was inspired by an experimentation of form or method. I really can't appreciate this sort of "intuitive" art.

I guess they call her the "pint-size Picasso" because Jackson Pollock isn't as ubiquitously known in the modern-day pop culture "hey, I know why fine art is" dialogue.

The kid can't hurt anything. It's a kid that just enjoys painting. What hurts the practice is all the yee-haws within the practice that take her seriously.

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but I don't see how this is DRASTICALLY different from all that other "dribble and smear stuff on a canvas" style of painting.

I think art is art. If you look at it and enjoy it, or it says something to you that is great!

Quote:
Style and critical reception

Art critics have noted Andre's work, classified as abstract expressionism, for its employment of the Surrealist techniques automatism and accidentalism.[6][11] She paints with acrylics and often adds three-dimensional objects, including bark, twigs, and feathers, to the canvases.[8] Buyers of her art at her New York show commented favourably on the paintings' simplicity and richness in texture.[4] A number of major news sources, including Time, the BBC, The Washington Post, the The Sydney Morning Herald, ABC News, and the New York Post, have generally responded favourably to Andre's work and to her early success. Several of them have compared her to Jackson Pollock, Salvador Dalí, and Pablo Picasso.[4][6][9][14] At least one other, The New York Times, acknowledged her widespread notoriety but commented that her paintings "are hardly novel from a formal vantage, nor do they provide added meaning below the surface."[11] It also noted that although her 2009 exhibition in Melbourne was not at a vanity gallery, the Agora Gallery's pay-for-show operation may undermine the legitimacy of her recent international fame.[11]
She even has a wiki entry...at 5.

I know that feel, bro.

But seriously, "automatism and accidentalism" are things you appreciate from a hand that's well studied in other forms, whose foray into these genres are attempts at something greater than a structured and classical approach to art.

Her stuff is okay but not great. I'm not seeing a lot of technique although the visuals are strong. Also her work seems to lack ideas. Sure its abstract but it doesn't seem to be expressive of anything. But its nice.
