I think poor bastard is common enough, it was throwing in 'dumb' that made it come off as extra cold.

Okay. Cultural relativism strikes again! :) It was an American that used the phrase in a common quote, I thought it was pretty common.

Edit: And yeah, I probably didn't need to include dumb, but the poor guy was not very clever. The beating was not his fault, nor was getting shot, but he did not have the tools to help himself when it came to other situations. So he was a poor guy who was a bit dumb. So fucking shoot me.

There was a lot of n-bombs going off later on...considering this was agriculture class and 97% of the class was white conservative males.

Nah the education system in his area sucks. I have never met anyone that does not know who Rodney King is. I took history in GA and FL and it was taught in both. Shits bizarre. I'm just hoping they were absent/sleeping that day.

also had no idea most of it took place in Ktown.
He was drunk and speeding and put the life of a lot of people at risk.

edit: of course the beating was not justified, just stating.

I don't think we learned anything history-wise past Vietnam in school. It has been almost ten years since I graduated high school though, so (hopefully) things have changed. My little brother is either a junior or senior in high school, but I haven't seen him in a couple of years(because I live on the opposite side of the country from him) and I have no idea the things he learns about in school.

But yeah, it is a pretty important piece of history that should be taught in school.

I'll just add to the Missouri public education discussion. When we ran out of time in the school year they just lobbed off what was left and forgot about it. So nothing ever happened after the 60s basically for most Missourians.

Ehhh... he resisted arrest, I thought he even hit one of the officers when they tried to cuff him. They deserve to rot in prison for beating him, but he certainly didn't just surrender. He acted like a drunk idiot, a situation I'd imagine most cops are trained to handle without stomping the person into the pavement with their batons.

The dude was far from innocent, wife beating and armed robbery records in the years before he got beaten. Seemed the guy had a pretty hard life and the beatings created a martyr out of him. I feel a sorry for what happened from the beatings forward no one deserved that fate and I'm sure it was a hard existence.

No I'm saying the guy was drunk driving, caused a police chase, put people's lives at risk, resisted his arrest, etc. The beating was not justified since there was practically nothing he could have seriously done considering how many officers were present, but to paint the whole event as being crazy racist police officers beating an innocent man is bullshit.
