Reviews are surprising so far. I was an early defender of ASM, but that latest trailer and some of the negative buzz took their toll on me. Right now, the best case scenario is that I'll probably enjoy the casting and the universe more than Raimi's take. Maybe I'll like this one better than the original film. I don't see it touching Spider-Man 2, though.

Yup, they're already coming in but mostly from the UK, but the US reviews will probably be going up today/tomorrow.

Here's another (great) review I saw, RT is at 86% but only 7 reviews (but no top/real critics) so who knows where it'll actually end up landing with 20+. Seems positive so far though!

The opening paragraph for that review is great, though;

The unexpected breakout star of The Amazing Spider-Man is a cellphone. No, really. Peter Parker has it glued to his ear for much of the movie, even when he’s Spider-Man. Either that, or he’s playing games on it. It’s in those moments, when he’s lounging on a giant web passing time with a puzzle app, or crouched on a parapet thousands of feet above Manhattan, being told by Aunt May to remember to buy some eggs on the way home, that the 21st century big-screen Spidey resonates in harmony with the Spidey that Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created 50 years ago. Even when he’s hunting down villains, he’s still just a teenager, living in the real world, dealing with everyday problems, and the film captures that enduring Spidey spirit perfectly.

The 6 day tracking numbers are good but what is the general thinking on the three day/opening weekend number?

If the studio is (likely low ball) estimating $125m for the 6 days is a guess of $60-70m for the weekend a solid shout?

John Moran, aged 41, Doncaster, said: “It’s amazing. Brilliant. Really good effects. One of the bet they’ve made - it beats the previous films in the series. It captures his agility to to swing through the air. His connection with the spiders. Fantastic. I really enjoyed it.”

Arthur Blythe-Warren, 11, of Sheffield, said: “It was one of the bet Spider-man films ever made. I like when he fought the big lizard.”

Adam Kamran, seven, of Rotherham, said: “I thought it was awesome. I loved when he jumped into things. I knew he would beat the lizard.”

Holly Eyre, 20, of Sheffield, said: “It was really amazing! It’s so much like the comic books. I’ve read lots of original Spider-Man comics and Andrew Garfield is amazing as Spider-Man. He’s so much better than Toby Maguire. “I wouldn’t recommend watching this in anything but 3D.”

Vance said: “It was spectacular - the 3D element of it and the web slinging as he swung through the city.” Melissa added: “It was a good story line and the 3D and the effects were amazing. out of this world. Really enjoyed it. Very good film.”

Lyndon Dodsworth, 26, of Bolsover, said: “I thought it was a half-way decent action film and a OK superhero film. I think I’ll go home and watch the original trilogy, to see how it draws up to those. It’s a bit weird when you watch a 3D film, for the first hour or so you think wow,this is amazing, then you stop noticing after that, so I don’t know if it’s going to be the next big thing or not. But yes, I enjoyed it. It’s not bad watch.”
