I honestly will be watching this. Never watched the SS version because it looked horrible, but this looks like really cool stylish but cheap fun.
And I love Karl Urban.
I saw him throwing her out the window at the end and toward the middle they show someone dressed like her falling to the ground. Unless she's cybernetically enhanced or something, she's fucking dead. |

Also, fuck his attempt at a badass action hero voice. Stallone pulled it off OK in the 1995 version, but this is just as corny and painful to listen to as Christian Bale's Batman voice. Urban should stick to Bones in the next Star Trek movie. Whoever said Ron Perlman would be perfect for Dredd was absolutely right. |

I'm in. It feels like its trying to do something a bit different in scope (definitely aping The Raid) but I feel Dredd's character and the futuristic scenario could make it entertaining in its own way. I mean, they could have made this feel like that Preacher movie.
Also really like the opening track, anyone have any idea of the track name?

Not sure about the movie... I can't stand "bullet time" in movies anymore. And I can't adjust to the art direction... Dredd boots are green, and I miss the golden eagle. Something the dreadful Stallone movie got almost right at the time.

I will say, that "bad guys take over a block, Dredd shows up and shoots his way to the boss" sounds like a pretty prototypical Dredd story to me.
Also, the issue with Urban, I think, is that from the sounds of it he really does care about the role and is a big fan of Judge Dredd. So he'll probably give it his all. He just doesn't have the ideal voice or frame for the classic perception of Dredd. On the other hand, I'm willing to give him a shot in context of the full movie since this is not the take on Judge Dredd's world many would have assumed; being more realistic, perhaps Urban will fit in better than an actor with more exaggerated features.
The flipside is that there's no way, just ten years ago, a Dredd movie on THIS scale could have been done looking like this, for the same amount of money probably.

I couldn't tell if that was Keira Knightley or Cersei Lannister and it is indeed Cersei. Movie looks like it will be average to poor (why doesn't she ever wear protection on her head?!) but it might be kind of fun. Nice visuals.

It's funny because I always reckoned low-budget was the way to make a Judge Dredd film. Need an excuse to keep the story tight and focused. The world of 2000AD is too sprawling to be done high-budget without it being messy, confused and bogged down by famous actors, sex appeal and bombastic scores.
In concept, I think this new film gets it right. It just doesn't look like it's pulled off the execution. |

I thought it looked decent. Tough guy Urban voice isn't great. I liked the color in the slow-mo scenes. Also liked the song, but that doesn't really have any effect on the film.
Looks like fun, hopefully it will also be above average. You betrayed the law. Laaaaawwwwwwww. |
