Does anyone else absolutely not care about or bother with Trophies and Achievements?
#1
Not trying to put it down or anything. I know a lot of people enjoy them and there's nothing wrong with that. For me personally though, I just feel like pursuing them detracts from actually playing the game. If I get some sort of a trophy without trying that's all fine and well, but I never find myself going outta my way to get them. Thankfully, their totally optional nature doesn't bother me. Although, I do have some OCD friends who get so overwhelmed by the amount available in some games to the point where they actually stop playing the main game.

Watching trophies synch every time I start a game irritates the shit out of me. Hate them.
I did like them in mega man 9. |

The worst kind. Every time I heard that stupid fucking DING after clearing a few more hours into FFXIII's story, I cringed. I don't need a shiny award to appear on screen to mark my progress; I want genuine in-game rewards for my forward momentum. Like the new use of an airship in an FF, or a new hub of non-linearity and choices in another game, or whatever.
Similarly, if I pull off something incredible, like a death-defying jump, or discover a hidden cave, I don't want the game to sparkle and applaud for me; give me a genuine reward in the game for it! A new weapon, a new ability, some new story information, etc. The uniform UI and nature of so many trophies and achievements has contributed to the plague of 'sameness' that's affecting so many games these days. They remove me from a game world and hurt immersion. |

I rarely even look at the lists. I like to do everything in a game itself, doing all of the quests and unlocking everything, but I don't care about meta challenges like achievements. I've been pretty down on them ever since I didn't get anything for collecting every Nothing in Blue Dragon. Developers don't like to give achievements for real accomplishments set forth by the game itself, and I've no interest in doing pointless stuff like getting max money or max level or doing some mundane action 10000 times or other lame stuff like that.

I don't, and I will never understand why people do. I don't dislike them, I just pay zero attention to them.
If you could buy Avatar items with Gamerscore, maybe I would give a shit. |

Some people like them for bragging rights. Myself, it gives me motivation to do things I wouldn't normally bother doing. |

Achievements adds to the immersion for me. Always a nice surprise to be playing a game and boom and achievement pops up. So I'd say trophy's and achievements are here to stay.
They are a welcomed addition to gaming. After you beat a game then go get the achievements. I recommend not playing it for the first time through and also go achievement hunting, kick back and enjoy the game, do the achievement homework later.

I quite like achievements.
That said, I don't think I've ever got a maximum achievements, or all trophies for that matter, on any game I own - the nearest I've come is 900 or so on Too Human. Not going to lie though, I love it when that little achievement sound comes on. I just don't actively seek them out in games. Also, don't know if anyone else has this happen, but I'll be playing on my 360, I'll be doing something in a game then, just as I do something which seems like it could be Achievement like, the sound plays and I think "I wonder what that was for?"...My eyes scan the top of the screen to check what the achievement was for...Turns out it's just a friend logging into Live. |

I like them but I'm not going to spend 30 hours playing a game that is 10 hours long to get them all. I don't have that kind of time spare.
Lo, I have 2 plats, both are Motorstorm RC and have got 100% on a sum total of 3 games (Motorstorm RC, Pixeljunk Shooter 1, Mutant Blobs Attack) |

They're the best thing about modern games. If I'm going to have to play all of these dumbed down boring games then at least give my OCD nature a little something to have fun with. They've probably been the only reason I got through this generation alive.
Also you care a little OP. Or else you wouldn't have made a thread about them for seemingly no reason. |

I LOVE TROPHIES I WANT TO GET MORE AND RUB EM ALL OVER ME. Going off this, I LOVE ACHIEVEMENTS FOR GIVING ME TROPHIES.
.. If you don't care about it, why start a thread about it? To me that's like posting negative comments or creating an entire thread based around negativity of something. It's just not worth the time in my opinion, to post negativity like that. |

I quite like them, and always try to get all the ones I can. I even manage to get a couple of friends into them, though I'm much more hardcore about them.
A lot of times they have greatly improved the experience. I wouldn't have become half as much of a fan of the Arkham games without them (don't think I'd have gone after the Riddles or the challenge rooms, which ended up being my favorite parts). Dead Space's run with only the Plasma Cutter on Impossible was what made the game for me. And getting a particularly hard one always feels good. It also pushes my completionist side. That said, I don't bother with them if I see it's not worth it, nor mind playing a game without them. |
