These days people expect their consoles to do more than playing games. You could say the PS2 with it's DVD playback was the tipping point over a decade ago, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight to what Microsoft will add to Live. Entertainment hubs are what consoles are transforming into, good or bad.

We jumped from Majora's Mask to WindWaker, that took some getting used to, then we leaped into the linear/easy/glitchy/tedious Skyward Sword (As Twilght Princess was originally intended to be a Gamecube game).

Zelda HD Wii-U looks promising, but research and development combined with the word 'casual' does prevent me from getting too comfortable.

I fall under that "core" gamer category and I love Mario games.

I feel that Mario is an experienced old man when it comes to platforming, but he needs a change of scenery, maybe a medieval type of resurgence. I don't find him rad.
