- Matt Zoller Seitz: TV Review: Airing Louie Near Anger Management Is Like Hanging a Degas Next to a Dumpster
Quote:
The show’s writer-director-star, Louis C.K., who plays the show’s divorced stand-up-comedian hero, has become the Woody Allen of TV, so it makes sense that he’d hire Allen’s regular editor, Susan E. Morse, to cut the series. After flirting with schlemieldom in seasons one and two, the first five episodes of season three find the character going full putz. The result plays like a hybrid of Allen’s pre–Annie Hall movies and Philip Roth’s self-lacerating autobiographical fiction. It’s as if middle-aged ennui and extended mourning for a long-dead marriage have sparked a kind of reverse puberty in Louie.
- Grantland: The Return of Louie and Why TV's Best Comedy Isn't Really a Comedy
Quote:
I realized that for Louis C.K. comedy and life are two entirely separate things. Louie, at its best and worst, captures the raw absurdity of reality before it’s carefully whittled into digestible, jokey bits. Onstage, Louis C.K. uses laughter as a defense against the world. The beauty and bravery of Louie is that he allows us to see him without that armor, as messy and needy as anybody else.

I cannot wait for this tonight! Louie is one of the best shows on tv, without a doubt. Nothing else quite like it. Rewatched season two last week and this week in preparation!

The girl is Gaby Hoffmann, she was the younger daughter in Uncle Buck... It was driving my wife nuts how familiar she looked.

Episode was good! That crash lol.

His 'not' girlfriend was oddly attractive. Great episode. The car bit, the reveal of the ex-wife, the sign discussion and him being incapable of saying what needed to be said killed me.

This man is not of this earth.

She was also the daughter in Volcano. I love that film and when I first saw it, I had a thing for her (I was 10 at the time). In this episode she was kind of a bitch, but Louie needed to pull some kind of trigger. The car and the motorcycle were pretty funny.

The only complaint I've always had with the show is that it feels like a set of small two minute skits than it does an episode.

"you can't park a dog, or a carrot?"

and that last scene, of Louie just not talking...fucking hilarious.

I'm still AFRAID that a show can be this good. It's overwhelming.

I didn't find this episode particularly hilarious, but I was still entertained the entire way through. Even when the show isn't making me laugh, it's making me think

I love Louis C.K. so much

It was a persuasive argument as well. Can't see why that's not medically possible.

Who played his ex-wife?

He said there will be more stories that span multiple episodes this season. With less self-contained stuff, I imagine each separate episode is going to be less satisfying than they've been in the past.

Solid episode but it didn't blow me away like some have in the past.

Best part was probably that motorcyclist who kept telling about his scars until it was uncomfortable.

Loved the first two seasons. The first episode of season 3 didn't really do it for me though. Hopefully it picks up throughout the season.
