Dane Cook interview where he talks about working on Louie

I don't know why people hate on this guy. He seems like the nicest guy.
Great interview.

His appearance on Louie was great. It was about Lady Gaga concert tickets, wasn't it? :lol

I don't hate him, but it's hard to enjoy any of the movies he's in.

Sure, he definitely deserves praise for what he's doing. But inventive should not automatically correlate to critical accolades (in this case, Louie is a very good show, so it can be somewhat forgiven). At the same time, one of the issues I have with television critics is their hive mind mentality. The amount of praise given to Louie, and how hyperbolic it is, is questionable.

I feel sort of silly for having to repeat this again, but I think it's a really good show and I really like it. I'm just not sure if there is any show that is as perfect as some of these reviewers describe it as (which seem to fall somewhere in between Nirvana and orgasmic).

I agree with you. I like this show a lot, and I do actually think its existence is important and that Louis CK is doing interesting and valuable things with it. But it's absolutely overhyped not just by the press but by individual people as well.

The excessive hype for Louie is unavoidable if you read even a little bit of television criticism, so why not discuss it? But yes, the show is really good.

hm, do you know what episode that happened in? afaik, we've seen his mother (the same actress also doubled as his sister), the pregnant sister, his grandma, the brother in season 1, but i don't remember seeing his ex-wife until now.

Great interview.
He seems fine, I guess people just look at his success and his material and see that it doesn't really match up. Also he is kind of 'bro-y'.

I remember avoiding the season 2 thread for a while due to excessive hyperbole from various gaffers, so it's not like the hype is exclusive to the critics.

Wonder why Louie's ex wife was white in the second episode of the first season when signing the divorce papers and black in last Thursday's episode. Not sure it matters all that much. Just an observation.

I'm pretty sure continuity is thrown out the window in this show.

Louie has said he just got the best actress for the role. He has never cared about continuity.

Anyone have a picture of Louie's ex wife from that second episode? If anything, the producers will probably chock it up to how each episode is its own self contained vignette, and that some episodes are in their own universe while others exist in the same universe. Or something.

Slowpoke here. Watching season 2 on Netflix now. The housing episode was so heartwarming.

The Pamela episode was so depressing I wanted to start drinking at 7am.

He gets a lot of hate for this bit he did.

I'm certainly not a fan of the guy and find the physical nature of his humor to be quite grating, but his appearance on Louie was awesome.

- Onion A|V Club: Louis C.K. on eating pressure and providing an alternative to The Man
Quote:
Writing, directing, editing, and starring in a critically acclaimed television show while creating a new hour of stand-up comedy every year would be enough for most entertainers. Hell, it would be more than enough: It would be a grueling, exhausting ticket to a complete nervous breakdown, especially once single parenthood is thrown into the mix. Yet Louis C.K. has somehow managed to find time in his busy schedule of writing, directing, and starring in his acclaimed FX vehicle Louie—as well as creating stand-up material that has made him one of the most respected comedians alive—to completely reinvent the way comedy specials and tickets to comedy shows are disseminated.

In late 2011, C.K. made headlines by selling his latest comedy special, Live At The Beacon Theater, directly to fans through his website, cutting out middlemen like cable channels or DVD distributors. The experiment was such a smashing success that comedians like Jim Gaffigan and Aziz Ansari soon followed suit. Emboldened, C.K. has announced plans to sell tickets to his upcoming stand-up comedy tour through his own website, once again cutting out middlemen like Ticketmaster.

C.K. recently completed shooting on the third season of Louie in addition to preparing for his next stand-up tour. The television auteur has also been cast in a new film from one of his idols, Woody Allen. (In a neat bit of synchronicity, C.K. hired Allen’s former editor, Susan Morse, to edit the third season of Louie, a task he previously handled himself.) The A.V Club recently spoke with the hardest-working man in comedy about his insane workload and enviable work ethic, his shark-like tendencies, and why he won’t he won’t be appearing in a buddy-cop movie with Larry The Cable Guy any time soon.

Hey for those that bought a ticket to his upcoming tour. Was the ticket sent to you or are you going to pick it up at the box office at will call as they say? I had missed out on the opportunity to get tickets recently but then saw "We reserve the right to change the tickets to will call." which had me worried.

He wasn't saying that they were unequal, just that while he was ready and happy to receive, he wasn't ready to give.

For me, the funniest parts of the first episode were the relationship scenes at the beginning and end. I can see the humor in that depending on how/whether one relates to it, though.

That woman was Melissa Leo, by the way. Absolutely killed. "I've been a good kid. Do you know how many dicks I've sucked in my life that I didn't want to suck?"; "Obama"; "Strap on the feedbag".
