It seems less than three quarters of you actually know what a B-movie is.

Yeah, the main thing that people don't get is that B-movies are low-budget.

Not sure if it should be considered a B-Movie or not, but it is to me.

Mullet Van Damme, Lance Hendrickson, Wilford Brimley, that guy from The Mummy.

Top secret science experiences. Giant Spiders. Skiing. It even has Patrick Muldoon from Starship Troopers!

Here's the plot synopsis:

"When a young ski team training for the Olympics arrives at the remote and isolated Lost Mountain Ski Resort to focus on training, they're thrilled to find a retired Olympic skier is there to help them train. But their plans are halted when a scientist working at a nearby government lab arrives with the horrifying news that a top secret Government project has produced giant spiders and they have escaped, killing and eating everything in sight."

I would have loved to hear the pitch meeting for this film. The main character is an Olympic skier named Dan "Dash" Dashiel for fucks sakes.

But but!! B movie is like them movies that have big budget! Doesn't B stand for Big Budget?!

I like Speed Racer! It was campy and it wasn't that big of a hit so it's a B Movie, OK! OKAY!!!

OKAY!!

I came in the thread with Evil Dead in mind. First post already nailed it.

I unfortunately grew up in a household that had a father that would only watch bad movies. So, I think I have seen them all from about 1977-1990.

My top 5:

1. Bloodsport
2. Dreamscape
3. The Warriors
4. 10 to Midnight (Bronson versus the naked killer!)
5. Ice Pirates

So bad they're good Top 5:

1. Head of the Family Trailer
2. The Devil's Rain Trailer
3. Hawk the Slayer Trailer
4. Caligula Trailer
5. Heartbeeps Trailer

Oh well ..

Heartbeeps wasn't either, but I think when a movie fails so miserably it becomes a B movie by aesthetics alone. Showgirls (mentioned below) is a great example of this.

I would just like to point out this little flick for the gentleman/lady who suggested Alien:

6.5 million dollar budget

Less than half of Alien's budget in adjusted US dollars. And it's a slasher, but its not really a B movie. So Alien definitely isn't one imo. But to answer the topic, I vote for Evil Dead 2 (edit).

Ulmer's Detour is fantastic.

My pick:

An amazing parable of aging, disease and death. Any movie that makes me ponder mortality and cry for a physically-revolting human/insect creature is an instant classic.

Most recently, 'Drive'.

'Evil Dead 2' has a special place in my heart for the amazing physical acting of Campbell.

However, if we accept the previous argument in this thread that 'Alien' is a B movie, then absolutely, 'Alien' is the greatest B-movie of all time.

Some of these films you guys are naming are not even B movies. The horror films like Deadly Friend and Hardware, they are C movies. Then there is Z movies like Plan 9 from Outer space.
