Tons of cosmetics, you can wear any armor that your weight class can use. You can take any armor that you like the look of and transmute it with the stats you want.

So it has come to my attention that another person is trying to claim the GW2 OT many months after I already had.

His post:

My post:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthre...2#post34823313

I'm only now aware there was a proper posting protocol, however, I also noticed the person who tried to claim the OT has never posted in our latest Beta thread so it seems very random. Could I get a response from a mod on this?

Eric: We’ve done some very basic and rough skill balancing up to this point. Now we’re moving into a phase where we will very much concentrate on this. Players should expect to see a lot of skill changes and refinements in the next BWE.
Oh boy

PM the OP of that thread and point that out to him, you were first so you should have the right to the OT.

Would be lol if you didn't get the OT because you didn't follow the section that said: "HOW TO CLAIM AN OT:"

WTF? I hope a mod straightens it out.

How do you find thread stats? Posters/post counts etc?

It actually resulted in some inappropriate weapon choices for new players who weren’t aware that they were making a choice about how complex they wanted their experience to be. Since we didn’t feel that we could guarantee that all of the choices would be equally easy for starting players, we decided to pick the weapon that we thought was best for new players. We’re still taking feedback on this, of course, so players who participate in Beta Weekend Events (BWEs) should let us know if they’d prefer a different starting weapon.
Huh, interesting. I had that thought too. One of the things that put me off playing the ranger class is I thought the starter axe was lame.

I'm so glad the game is coming in 2 months - I had a quick break at work and checked Facebook on my phone. Had a little internal nerd fiesta at my desk for a few minutes when I saw the update.

Honestly this kind of stuff happened already with the RE6 fiasco a few months back. If you never showed proof saying that you'd claim the GW2 thread on the OT Claim OT then I don't think you'd get it even if he didn't post in GW2 threads. Even if you did claim it in one of the GW2 threads, as long as he claimed the thread in the Claim OT then he should get it by default. I just remember that with RE6 there was problem where the RE clique thought that they were doing the thread even though someone had already claimed it in the Claim OT. So... yeah...

EDIT: I stand corrected about the sitaution.

Still, at about level 10 each, I had two issues:

I hated how squishy the Elementalist is in PvE and the lack of crowd control. Did wonders in PvP as I actually managed to score kills defending/attacking.

I hated how pitiful my Engineer's damage is in PvP. Throwing grenades at an attacking force did almost nothing. Barely got "XP" for kills. On the flip side, I can easily manhandle several enemies at once in PvE.

There is no winning for me. Can someone who has played up to higher levels let me know if it gets better for either of those classes. Feel like being level 10 didn't really help as I didn't even have access to traits.
I saw awesome Engineer pvp videos. I think you have to be switching kits to be very effective. Were you playing SPVP?

I though Elemental was fine, but I'm like level 13. That Staff Water auto-attack is like god mode. It heals whatever you hit, so if they are in melee range, you just keep healing yourself and killing the enemy faster than they kill you. lol

I hope it isn't yet another MMO bomb, but I can't see the game gaining popularity outside GW1 veterans. It's very hard to place my finger on it, but I don't feel good about it.
I'm not alone when I say this, but I found GW1 boring. GW2, on the other hand, is ridiculously fun to me. Others, in this thread and elsewhere, have said the same. There is no way that GW2 is going to bomb, whereas I was relatively sure WAR and SWTOR were going to have problems.

If it's not for you, that's fine - but there's little need for concern for this game.

I don't really rate the Water attunement on staff, I didn't try it yesterday though so maybe they have tweaked it? The heal component on auto attack is pretty weak from what I can remember and not enough to justify staying in melee.

GW2J: The WvW maps are gigantic and can often appear daunting to a new player, especially someone who is not in a large and supporting guild. Are there any plans to get the solo or casual player into the action quicker? Are there any plans on introducing faster ways to get from point to point (assuming a server has control) around the map?

Eric: A world can upgrade its ability to travel by upgrading captured keeps to contain a waypoint. Other than that we don’t currently have any plans for increased fast-travel options. One thing that is important to understand is that travel times are necessary to ensure that a side can achieve victory by keeping the other team out of the fight for an extended period of time. WvW is meant to simulate a large-scale battle, and we feel that travel through the map and simulating troop movement and reinforcements is very much a part of this.

^^^ this is the worst, and almost destroys PVP for me.

In the beta dying--->down state---> walk back to where the fight is, takes FOREVER.

Adding any basic mount/speed boast wouldn't take many resource, and would make so much sense.......

People are disliking it? Haha

EDIT: Man, if they added tons of fast travel options to WvW, it would completely destroy it. It would mitigate any surprise tactics by allowing those you beat through ingenuity to get back into their Zerg with virtually no time lost.

You must understand the reasoning for this. If a group is attacking a keep and another defending it, if one group starts dying and is allowed to get right back to it you end with an infinite stalemate. That is horribly boring.

Hmmm.... did we really need a new thread? Could have just changed the title on the old one, seems kind of pointless. Oh well.

Good news though, August is just close enough that it doesn't seem like forever, but far enough away that I'm not immediately sucked into MUST PREPARE HYPE MODE.

Still a BWE to look forward to in July, which means now that there's a proper release date all of the asshats who said "LOL, I am not pre-purchasing a game with no release date" have no excuse.

Meh, they can call em how they see em, but it just seems like the old one would have lasted until the OT went up. They usually shut threads down at 20k posts but we were just barely over 11k. Like I said, oh well.

As far as the Official Thread goes, Jira has put the work into making the GW2 threads on GAF amazing and no shenanigans should disrupt his right to the OT, especially when he clearly called it first. His Massive Info Post for the Uninformed should go down in MMO history, never seen somebody a single individual put so much effort into getting the info out there that wasn't an employee.

Can't wait to see it. And on that note, can't wait until August either.

I think it's the perfect length. Like a trailer for a movie, it has the build up in both imagery and music, along with epic moments (like the new dragon - another Zhaitan champion?), showing off all the varied zones and races and plenty of action. The only thing it was missing IMO was a voice-over from the legendary Don LaFontaine

No. Absolutely not. On both your accounts.

1) How dare you call downed state beta, when you cant even finish off people quickly? obviously its a hinderence to you, and you think this game is supposed to be some 1-shot-1-kill affair. I agree that Downed state lacks A LOT of things in sPvP, but it's not beta. this alpha/beta shit is childish on all accounts.

2) this game has very few death penalties. what happens when a game has insignificant death penalties is that it becomes boring. death becomes less of a "god no" factor, and takes the risk/reward aspect away. it removes the need to keep people alive, to revive people. it will be quicker to let everyone die and have them wait 5 seconds to join the fight again. everything will be reduced to glass cannoning because people are living and respawning so fast it will look like call of duty. you might as well let yourself die instead of waiting for cooldowns to run off.

the travel time, allows there to be a level of skill involved. a significant factor will be about getting "reinforcements": the game collapses if there are not these breathing situations. on another hand if the keep is really powerful there is an option of waypoints.

also if one side has just went on an amazing alexander-the-great-style conquering they will have a quicker time getting back thanks to other nearby territorial control. this also gives an illussion that the massive opressional side has not just lost everything over one keep, and it also ensures that should another side be sneaky and take one vital keep at 5 am when nobody is online, they will have trouble keeping it, because the other side has stronger fortifications nearby.

this taking time, traveling from place to place. all this is incremental to making it work. its why planetside was so intense in the beginning. it took around 15-20 min for one character to hack a "keep" and in that time his squadmates and betallions would need to keep that fort. this created intense battles, that where allowed to work because the waves of enemies attacking the keep where not constant. but there was breathing rooms and thus zerging was not possible.

It's not about wasting your time. its about chatting with your guild mates as you run back to fight and tag along with a running group who you decide to go together with as you would do much more damage together than coming one fly at a time.

these ultra short spawn times and 320% speed increasing tools in wow was one of the reasons it turned into this propel-yourself-into-the-middle-of-the-enemy-territory. Nobody gave a shit. dying had no consequences other than a 5-30 sec cd and you where ready to go again.

It shouldnt take half an hour to get back. but it should take long enough time for you to really really really REALLY not want to die. Because of your value as a soldier. as your value of making you a part of the army's overall strength. I see WvW as not being about the individual. but about everyone. sPvP is for your ego boosting no-time-wasted adrenaline feel. I agree on that, but not WvW.

GW2J: One of the most common issues players have with GW2 is its animations. Some people have complained that a character appears to be “floating,” or not attached to the ground. Some have pointed out shadows or different kinds of “change of direction” animations that take place. Can you explain what your animation team has done and perhaps some of the reasoning why things are the way they are?[/B]

Eric: I think there are a few different things that people refer to when describing things as feeling “floaty.” There are a number of bugs with things like player shadows, footsteps, and model position that contribute to this feeling. Those are things that we intend to fix.

The other thing that people point to involves our use of transition animations to make our animations look and feel smoother. In many games when they use transition animations, they will restrict movement to match the animation. Instead of doing that we opted to make our movement more responsive, so while the animation may look like the character is transitioning from one movement set to another, the character is actually moving in the new direction immediately. This may help contribute to the “floaty” feel that some people complain about, but we feel that in the long run it is a good compromise between smooth-looking animation and responsiveness.
Really? Come on. Most people don't know WHAT THE FUCK they are talking about. Eric apparently knows this too, as he shifts the questions almost towards clipping issues(footsteps) and shadowns (effect). It's dangerous to listen to masses. jesus christ. What a trip it must being a developer sometimes. The game is not floaty at all. GW1 was floaty. q quick mechanical keyboard press on w,s,a or d instigates a small move from the character. a little twitch. I'm not saying it's perfecty but GW2 has one of the best blending animation systems I've ever seen in an online game. not everything is perfect and somethings not so good - norn running, finishing move, jump for certain races etc... but actual running? for humans/charr. no way. norn, perhaps. but thats the run speed thing. humans are amazing. conan, wow, SWTOR esspecially.. i hate how humans run in these games. my heart is full of black hatred for the running animations in those games. people look like they pooped their pants.

Don't be one of those people that try to pick class based on effectiveness. Then you are indeed correct about "there is no winning for me".

Whatever you pick today, even if it was awesome sauce you have no guarantee that it wont get nerfed or reduced in power directly or indirectly many many times throughout this games life.

Warriors are great in WvW, even with rifle. Many people would rather blame the class or other exterior motives than themselves. it cant be themselves. after all everyone is fucking amazing and an expert on the game. it was just the circumstances of the class they where playing.
you should rather play the underdog, the underwhelmed class, and not care so much about winning. A zen master will tell you that victory will bring you no true happiness. be what you where born to be. not what these FOTM youtube peeps desire you too!

Lol. Anyway, in my defense, I said it was coming in November because of WoW. Seeming as how there is no WoW release date, which I'm still sort of shocked about, this date doesn't surprise me. Also, it's close enough to September for me.

Releasing on the first day back to the university...really hyped though! I've been waiting 5 years now. 2 months seems to be nothing for me now.

Make no mistake, Mists will release soon around this. Blizzard will try to crush new games, they always do.
