Some of these stories are terrible, what's going on over there?
Who gives a shit if it's against your beliefs, you're not the one taking it. |

As briefly as possible: Over the past 40 years, Christianity and politics have become intertwined to the point where they are one and the same. To the point where people can make ANY claim about what they believe and then scream "religious persecution" when said beliefs are called out for being horrible. Note the similarities to theocratic government behavior, i.e. Iran, Saudi Arabia. It's an amazingly powerful weapon to use in political debate. Who wants to man up and go "yes, I am willing to accept the label of 'religious persecutor' to stop you" ? No one, so American politicians all have to play lip service to Christianity regardless of whether or not they actually believe it. This filters into the population, and as a result people think that "Personal belief" is the same as "Important and should be a law." |

Yeah Im not from the US.
Isnt the separation of church and state at the foundation of the country? Why should a section of the populous with one belief have any power or say over others? (& isn't at the core of christianity, acceptance of others and charity?) It's baffling to me, I'll never understand this. |

Last week a major opposing party (right-wing of course) here wanted to pass a bill that would make in-vitro illegal (up to 2 years in jail for doing the operation) because it is against Church's teaching. o_O

In the simpleminded world of American politics, telling people "Good people agree with me, bad people disagree" works incredibly well. This is deliberate, by the way. The Right wing party in the US, the Republicans, have combined their party with religion and gained incredible power (due to numbers) over the past 40 or so years. This is partially to do with the IMMENSE propaganda campaign against Russia and the evils of COMMUNISM and ATHEISM. Most people do not realize that if we went back in time 70 years, the Republicans are NOTHING like the current political group of hyper religious, pro-military right wingers. Just look at : http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=29640 "The Republican Party is firmly opposed to involving this Nation in foreign war. " There's no way an American Republican would say such a thing today. Oh, and to answer your question: No. It's to gain power (more converts), just like every political group. |

Hope she wins oodles of money though. That is amazingly, goofily simplistic.

Any news on the security guard Michelle Spinelli being fired and the city sued for millions?
Religion is one of the biggest fuckups of the human race. We should make a website, maybe a deck of cards of people like the guard. The Ace of Spades, Jerry Falwell, is already dead, and the other aces on the deck, Rush, Glenn, and Sean.
