Basically, yeah. Spider-Man 2 is just so completely forgettable. I know I watched it multiple times, but I really can't remember much of it.

Here's what pissed me off about Spidey 2.
Doc Ock is going to find Peter to get to Spidey. So he throws a car into the building he knows Peter's in. Yeah, it's dramatic and all and makes for a cool scene. But what if Peter hadn't been Spidey? His Spider Sense hadn't tingled and he hadn't been able to just barely dive out of the way? He'd have been dead, that's what. And Doc Ock would've lost his only lead. It just seems that a genius like Doc Ock might have thought a little further ahead than making a dramatic entrance. |

- if he doesn't kill Peter (which he doesn't, obviously), than Peter can run and tell Spider-Man - if he does kill Peter, Spider-Man will know about it and come to him anyway Either way, he gets Spider-Man. Sure, Harry would have been pissed if he'd killed Peter, but I don't think Ock was too concerned for Harry's thoughts. |

Umm. When was MJ supposed to react to Peter's reflexes? She's whisked away by Doc Ock and the next time she has the chance to speak to Peter, he already has his mask off.

This is the problem with slo-mo. Because we can see what's going on we assume that people can see the same thing. Everything happens too fast for with Ock or MJ to figure it out.
The scene is a plothole IMO because it's there solely to excite the viewer without much sense considering Peter & MJ would both be seriously injured or dead. That said I love the scene- all of it. Ock is sufficiently menacing and Peter is sufficiently upset. |

...actually the best explanation I've ever seen. That one bit bugged me for years. Also, 2>>>2.1 The addition to the train fight scene (where Ock throws Spidey in front of the train) literally makes it comedic, especially since they reuse the same reprisal theme that they had just used 30 seconds earlier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z00fT...ailpage#t=203s

Just watched the first film because of this thread. I remembered thinking it was just '/goodokay' (and that 2 was great) but it was really, really good.
Even the effects looks pretty good for something 10 years old, a few ragdoll-man CG shots and too-smooth textures, but great action scenes looked fine. (I was watching the DVD though, HD might show the flaws in the effects more). And the story was simple, sweet and fun. It was like a Pixar story, fun for all ages. A very rushed origin doesn't feel like it because the characters are nicely done. Better than all the DisMarvel movies except Avengers IMO. |

Also, watching that extended fight scene, man, Doc Ock takes a hell of a lot of punishment for a pudgy middle-aged scientist. You'd think he'd be knocked out after a few kicks to the head. Must be the tentacles overclocking his adrenaline.

2 Was definitely the best. That train scene was incredible.
1 is still okay, but waaayy campier then I remember. 3 is pretty bad, but I think the Peter strutting thing is still funny. He's a dork who's turning evil, but deep down he's still a dork and that's what makes that scene funny. |

I feel like I'm the rare moviegoer that wasn't really wowed by the train scene in Spider-Man 2 but loved just about everything else. Raimi nailed Peter's woes. Everything from doing his laundry while learning poetry and the gala where he recites that poetry to MJ and watches her get engaged, to the scenes of him alone in his room with those dilapitated walls and cake girl. It's just a fantastic movie.
And I love that there's a special emphasis on them actually being in Manhattan. The shots of the pedestrians and officers and everything going on in the background when there's a scene outside has a very unique New York atmosphere that I'm glad was put forward. |

Visually, Raimi is a very gifted director. He has a good eye for crafting scenes in a unique way, beyond the usual static shot conventions, even though this vision is hampered sometimes by the CG at the time.
However, I'm not a huge fan of his Spidey films. The casting for Peter and MJ completely kills it for me. And I don't really understand the love for the second film. I haven't watched it all the way through since it came out in theaters, but I don't remember it being any less cheesy than the first movie. Wasn't a fan of Peter's dilemma, either; somebody else put it correctly when they said he was more emo in SM2 than he was in SM3. |

Comic books are part cheese. It's reasonable to have some cheese in it.
Peter was more angsty than compared to the comics or cartoons but it just shows him taking responsibility for Uncle Ben's death seriously. That personality was also the closer to the early comic books, which Raimi was a fan of. |

But he was the first 'true' spidey/Parker we got, so pretty much everyone naturally loved him.. I think he was ok, with most of the actual Parker issues being due to Raimi more so than Tobey, imo. Still wasn't a great physical fit either. Physically SM1 was his peak, from there he did start adopting a rather 'butch' physique for one reason or another.

That's what I didn't like about SM 2. Aside from the mechanical limbs, Doc Ock is a normal human. With his superhuman strength, Spidey should have killed Ock with a single punch or kick.

I loved the first two, especially #2. It remains my favorite comic book film ever, including Iron Man, TDK, and yes even the Avengers (which is a very very close second). 3...it's okay. Just felt rushed at the end and Venom was an afterthought forced onto Raimi so I get that it was the way it is. I too wish that Raimi continued though.

I never pass up an opportunity to rag on Spider-Man 2 for being extremely overrated and quite boring, but this is a part of comic book mythos in general. He's the same way in the comics and other media. I'm sure you could come up with technobabble explanation that the machines tapped into his brain were causing his body to pump ridiculous amounts of adrenaline or something else that made him be able to withstand so much punishment. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to being boring as fucking shit if Spider-Man was able to punch or kick him once and Doc is down for the count.

Yeah, but this is a problem with the superhero genre in general, so it's hardly limited to this movie.
