Yeah, I'm sure it's only Dust and Dishwasher, isn't it? Or was that Silver Dollar thing a DBP winner too? Still, I like to think BtM could have been on XBLA if it hadn't come out already last year, maybe I'm dreaming!

As long as they've played the games to verify their quality, all's good. We don't want another Raventhorne, which looked great in the trailer...

Still, either way I don't think anything's going to live up to Dead Sea.

Correct, the XBLA contract is no longer guaranteed.

And if one did in fact with the contract and couldn't be released as part of the Uprising, I think it supports our notion of being able to choose good games :p.

I don't think XBLA contracts are part of the DBP awards at all any more just in general. So if a DBP winner ends up on XBLA it's not necessarily because they won, but because some company took interest and got it up on there.

Dishwasher and Dust way back won it when an "opportunity" for XBLA contracts were part of winning DBP.

Anyway I have to try this Dead Sea you speak of.

I don't think an XBLA contract was ever guaranteed on DBP, was it? Just something that might happen, possibly, it's always been about the cash first and foremost.

Okay, you made me go find a youtube video. Urgh.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=y5_SK0Pe9iI

Is there actual voice in the final game? Without it, it is incredibly awkward to watch. Also, the lack of music adds to the dead-ness of the clip.

That trailer is EXACTLY the same as the intro is in the final game, albeit blown up to ten times the size and blurry as hell as a result.

(They entered this into DBP as well)

Dead Sea is... well, it's definitely something. I'm horrified by it in more ways than one.

Also, anyone play Mister Jump yet? The game steals sound effects from Super Mario.

In just one of a series of cock-ups, the game doesn't really make it clear. As far as I can tell, you press RT and LT to swim but it doesn't tell you where to head for, and if you press RT and LT to swim a shark will come and eat you unless you do a minigame. Also if you press RT and LT to swim you'll get tired and drown. I'm not entirely sure what the actual goal is or how you're meant to do it when the actual act of gameplay gets you killed.

You have to swim to one of the buoys. I went north and found one. She climbs up on it, but by the time I got there, my trial ran out lol

When you get to the buoy, the shark starts jumping at you and you do more QTE's to swing the buoy back and forth to avoid it. Eventually the shark gets bored and swims away. That's when the trial ends.

Look at Slick, though!

Not as pretty as Treasure Treasure, but, promises 100 levels of platforming

Pretty disappointed in both Slick and the Ninja Exorcist game. Slick is just really basic with subpar controls, and they kind of halfassed the whole presentation aspect -- one of its main selling points. Ninja Exorcist has a bunch of great ideas and great art but the execution is pretty poor. Like, there's sections where you need to break boxes, and they're stacked up. Your normal swing destroys the bottom two boxes, leaving a third at head height. You then need to either jump and attack that third, eye-level boxes or crouch under and crawl through. Just an example of inconvenient design.

Thought Slick was pretty fun myself. It's obviously very simple (as far as I've seen so far) but I didn't have any problems with the controls. Well, beyond this weird little "hop" thing that he does when he lands that makes jumping twice difficult (unless you hold A down).

Certainly saw 80pts of value in it.

I finally had some time to play some XBLIGs last night, and well....

Slick
Clearly a gameboy inspired title, with it's monochromatic color scheme and simple controls. Despite this, I found it to be a nice nostalgic ride back to the late 80's / early 90's. Everything felt authentic, from the screens, to the sound effects, but after a few minutes it just wasn't very much fun.

Dead Sea
The cinematics were reminiscent of the early Saturn / PS1 era, where the character mouth movements don't match the text at all, and the sound effects chime in about 3 seconds too late. It was a brief blast to the past however, as the gameplay.....well I had no idea of what I was doing. Or what I was supposed to do. After 5 minutes I just folded my hands and walked away. My boat is capsized and I'm floating in the water, surrounded by a swarm of hungry sharks. Like my character, I gave up.

Next up:
oneonone basketball
Ninja Exorcist (how can you not like this game?)
CatHunterPoyPoy (beat me to the whole "cat" thing.... and he hunts cats!)

Yeah, I thought Slick was OK if you haven't already got Johnny Platform Saves Christmas, but the character has a sloppy way of landing after a jump (he seems to hover for a split second) and the level design isn't half as good, at least in the initial levels.

I remember liking Ninja Exorcist when I playtested it a while ago, but at that stage there was a bug early on that stopped me progressing. I'll have to try the finished version.

(BTW I forgot to say thanks for the Silver award Dark Octave. Thanks!)

Time to beat on a dead horse. I've been talking about it for a while in these threads but with IE coming I see no reason for them to start allowing free ad based games like on wp7. Id play a hell of a lot more games if they were free. All those 80pts games which we've forgotten about for free and each time we play the dev gets something too. Win, win.

One of the factors I really liked about NFO was that the jump slash would kill almost all enemies in one hit, that preserved the flow of the game where you get close and then just jump-slash past the enemy to kill him instead of stopping and pulling some stupid combo. Combos just don't fit the whole ninja idea where you're a quick and efficient killer with a sharp blade.

So I played some Ninja Exorcist (funny name) this weekend. It's kind of like an easier Ninja Gaiden (thank god), but I enjoyed it!

http://www.armlessoctopus.com/2012/0...exorcist-pt-1/

"I’d imagine that most gamers would find something worthwhile in their time with Ninja Exorcist. Frequent save points help fend off the frustration of having to start over from the beginning, and the speed of the game is somewhat determined by your approach, although it can be a bit slow at times. If you can can past that, then I’m certain you’ll be entertained during your campaign with Ninja Exorcist, which I highly recommend."

I honestly have no idea what to make of it in all truth. It's obviously a terrible game but on the other hand it's kind of sweet. Or it might be kind of creepy. I just can't decide. One thing's for sure though, I have never laughed quite as much at the sound effects in a game before, and I can't work out whether to feel bad about it or not.

But man... I'd rather manipulate enemey characters, haha. Tie their shoe laces togther, tug on their hair, tap them on ths shoulder, pull a pin from their grenades, steal their extra ammo, give 'em a wedgie, push them into each (causing lunchroom fights), or just bug the heck out of their supreme commander, so that he starts to punish them for me, thinking they did it all...

Fallen Angel - Got bored of getting people the dope or the good after about two minutes. Spin-kicked a random pedestrian and they disappeared. Whatever

Pacific Wings - I think that's the title. It doesn't deserve that much of my memory since it's a really really lame 1942 rip-off.

Blaster - Looks like a VGA shareware game. I guess that's a point in its favor. Nothing special but probably the best of the three titles I just downloaded.

Super Wagon Adventure and OCD are worth picking up I think. I also think Sushi Castle is a decent game, I have no idea of whatever it's cloned by but tbh I couldn't care less.

Not tried Ava Glide 2 yet, it is back out and Ninja Exorcist needs a bit more time for me to decide. Puzzled has tons of levels and loads of music and some I swear is from Apple Jack, seems to be doing well in the ratings another I need to play a bit more.
