There you go http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=485785.Needs a new thread, some of these look great!
Looks like I'm buying almost everything though, bar that thing that looks like Minecraft again and that ropey looking 2D platformer with a name I can't even read.
I'll continue the Uprising discussion in the other thread.
I made the game a topic. If anyone cares to post in it: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=485855
Is that how it works? After three years I'm still 40 shy.Originally Posted by toythatkills

Definitely looks to be the best uprising lineup yet. Good variety of genres and some quality visuals.
I also wanted to note that everyone should see the longer trailer for Gateways, because the few seconds of clips in that trailer don't give it enough time to convey just how cool it is.
Then again a number of those games in the trailer, it's hard to tell exactly what the gameplay will be like. But they sure do look cool! :P
I haven't played it or anything but it looks fantastic and definitely worth the attention it will receive on Steam. The formerly XBLIG-bound They Bleed Pixels is going to Steam. No word yet as to whether it's still coming to XBLIG or not.

Check it out.
Super Wagon Adventure, OCD and Sushi Castle are all better then Overdriven and came out last month. I think they should be on the front page.We decided against it since nothing of any real note came out in July. We'll just keep the convo going here until the impending September thread.
I'll see what the games in the Indie Uprising are like, 4 possibly interest me.
Super Wagon Adventure was aesthetically pleasing but didn't really have any lasting value for me. Too random for my taste. OCD felt like it would inspire the actual disorder in me based on the trial, so I didn't go past that (though I'm shocked it didn't get much discussion here), but I didn't think it was bad. Sushi Castle took a bunch of flack for being inspired by Binding of Issac.Super Wagon Adventure, OCD and Sushi Castle are all better then Overdriven and came out last month. I think they should be on the front page.

I mean, I wouldn't be opposed to someone doing some sort of August awards and having them edited into the OP, but between the three of us that do the thread, we didn't see a need for it. It is a community effort though, so if someone is in to put it together then please, do it.
Oh really? Nice! Are you guys going to be at PAX as well?Originally Posted by Warm Machine

Who from this board is going there? If you are, let's meet up. I'll be there Thursday - Mon.
Also, take a look at this. Congrats to @DigitalDNAGames.

In other news, I haven't downloaded an XBLIG for nearly a month. I'm pretty sure it's the Uprising and then death for this service.
I am pretty much coming to a similar conclusion, I have been about since the start but not sure I'll be about much longer. I have way too much going on in real life and the quality has gone right down and it takes so much time to wade through some of the stuff.Originally Posted by toythatkills
There are some pretty bad games there considering Little Racers STREET didn't make it. Fucking travesty. Looks like you pretty much have to be a 2D platformer if you want considering for DBP, which is really harsh on milkstone. Apple Jack 2 to win, obviously, since it's the best 2D platformer in years.

Also i hope MS don't give up on XBLIG like they did with Game Room.
To be fair, the Indie service has been going on for quite some time now. Didn't Game Room die super quick?Originally Posted by Alfred Saxon

I doubt they will indie it up on the 720 from the get go.
The writing is on the wall for downloadable games on a given marketplace anyway. Services like Steam have shown flexibility for updates and sales. MS is probably figuring out the est way to upgrade and update XBLA and xblig together so they fall under a clearer banner.
My main concern is for XNA. MS built an incredible framework and it has been used on really big an sucessful indie games. They need to champion it a lot more.
It's a shame that the support from MS for XNA is dwindling, but I'm not sure of the future of indie games on the next Xbox.
It must have cost them a fortune to start all of XNA / XBLIG, and my best guess is that they are finally recuperating the costs of that work, with the successes of many of the current top developers on the platform.
It could be so much more with proper support, but who knows.
However, since that time the XBLIG marketplace has been thriving at unprecedented levels. (Notice in the lastest dash update no one has to complain about indie games being buried)
Yet...many people don't feel like it is thriving.
Why is that?
Probably because there is little interest on their part with the games that are selling well. Or maybe the novelty of the channel has worn off due to stagnation (No new XNA features). Or maybe the developers that build interesting games for them have moved on to other platforms. Or maybe it is a combination of all of the above and perhaps more.
We are in very interesting times these days. Right now the future of gaming/computing in general (not just xblig) is in a transition period. The companies at the forefront of this movement are focusing investment in cloud services and mobile devices. Where this will take gaming remains to be seen.
What I see happening for XBLIG on the next Xbox is a convergence with the Arcade similiar to the Windows 8 store. Where there are only Xbox LIVE enabled games or non-Xbox LIVE enabled games but all distribution is done through the same channel. There is a chance that this will not occur however with the wild card being WinRT support for the next Xbox. All of this is my own personal speculation. I have no inside information but this does seem like the logical transition. I could very likely be wrong about this.
However, Microsoft is still a silo of companies and the IEB may choose to keep the technology stack for Xbox NEXT separate from WinRT and continue with classic DirectX development. DirectX SDK has been been pulled under the Windows umbrella so there are some hints there to who will be calling the shots. Who knows what will happen. Recently phone development has been ripped out of App Hub website. App Hub website has gone back to Xbox exclusively. See: http://create.msdn.com/
As for me, I've got one more game lined up for XBLIG that I'd like to get out by the end of September. After that I plan on stepping back and broadening my technical skills so that not all of my gamedev eggs are in the XNA basket.
I started XNA development and invested quite a bit time wise into it before even knowing we would be able to sell games one day. That was over 6 years ago. My oh my, has time flown by. In that time I would say for me XNA is and continues to be a smashing success from a personal satisfaction point of view and financially as well. XNA and XBLIG still get two thumbs up from me. I have heard that XNA will exist on Xbox NEXT but in what state I don't know (XNA on phone 8 anyone?).
For the most part I've decided what direction to move forward with and I am pretty excited about it. Since there are many unknowns I'll be once again taking a leap of faith but, hey, nothing ventured nothing gained. If things work out how I'd like them to I'll continue to be making games for Xbox but even better than before.
Here's to the future!
Any other indies or XBLIG regulars going to be there?
Mr Voyles and I will be there. We should meet up.Originally Posted by Warm Machine

I'll be there Thursday - Monday. Shoot me a private message on here, or DM me on twitter and I'll give you my number.
Last year we had a nice small meetup at a bar/restaurant one evening, so I'd love to do that again.
Wow, this looks like an oldie!
That was a super fun time. We should def do something like that again.Originally Posted by DaveVoyles

Played a ton of games on this channel today. Just... man. I had some fun with this one with the weird japanese name, oddly enough.
It's the sequel to Manic Miner, the old Spectrum game released a few weeks back on XBLIG.Originally Posted by DaveVoyles

JSW doesn't have gravity switching or anything, but yes, there are many similarities between the two - graphics, the interconnected map, room names etc.Originally Posted by OnPoint

I am happy with some of the DBP picks, some of them are scratching head level but hope the best ones win and hope they are treated well. FYI Microsoft has a division called DPE that supports developers like being their champion within MS to beat the core engineering teams over the head if there are any customer affecting problems that are blocking devs from using MS platforms.
I keep hearing that there are more positive changes for indies in the beta but after upgrading my console I am no longer in it so I wonder what is going on...(beta I mean the Fall dashboard one that gaffers are on as well)
I echo your thoughts, although I'd love to be surprised and see XBLIG support on the 720 from day one, that would be amazing. It is certainly one of the questions that will be asked about the new console, given the success of Indie gaming on Steam/XBLIG/the App Store.Originally Posted by Warm Machine
Xblig is a fountain of pure profit for them. Closing it is unlikely. The voxel games have made them around $5 million alone.

Therefore we probably won't see it from any of the major console manufacturers.
You guys that get to visit with them at PAX are in for a real treat!!!
Look like tomorrow is going to be the reveal. Check back here then. I'll post the trailer and screens as soon as they are available!
