Yeah come on, be good to get new and old players together. Sounds like a couple of people are interested in playing this game for the first time just from reading this thread. I'm keen as, may even plonk the fiver down for the 6 maps, I mean, hell, it's only a fiver anyway. Just means one less Big Mac combo this week. =D

My only real beefs with Killzone 2's MP was the over playing of Radec Academy and how little people seemed to play the DLC maps. I paid for the first pack and basically never played a match with anyone with the pack due to how few people were playing those specific maps.

Amongst all the other things KZ2 did well, it is worth singling out the implementation of bots, especially for those like me that dislike competitive multiplayer.
You can create an online custom game where you and friends can cooperate against a bot team or each lead your own bot team. The objective based game modes and classes add a lot of depth and encourage team work. This mode alone is essentially what Brink is in it's entirety. The bots make good foes, but also help you try and achieve the gameplay objectives, the medics heal you, engineers create turrets , etc which is more than can be said for most human players. |

Killzone 2 is maybe the only game that I regret getting at full price this gen, such a boring & dull campaign with characters that I wanted to shoot (hi Rico) plus the worst controls I've seen in a high profile game this gen...I still can't get how this game got a 92% at metacritic and some people say that it's amazing or one of the best shooters ever - I guess I'm missing something.
About Killzone 3 I'm trying to beat it for about two weeks now but I can't bring myself to continue the game since I'm bored to death...at least the controls aren't shit this time and the tech is great. |

RE: the controls in 2 vs 3. I am using the exact same config in #3 as in #2 but the only difference is I have the crouch set to toggle in #3, something that was missing in KZ2. Man, what a massive difference this makes to me. So much more enjoyable.
Right, booting up KZ2 for some MP. Although I am in New Zealand I'll be on US servers since there are no Aussie/NZ/Pacific servers I can see running. If anyone is keen, Weak_Spot in my ID. Just going to download these map packs before I start. |

Everyone is saying the campaign is boring. Are you being too trepidatious? Except on Elite when the AIs accuracy is godlike, you can either stick to cover and pick your shots or rush the enemy line. I didn't realize how effective going completely berserk was until I tried for the knife kills trophy. A lot of sections have endless waves of enemies and the game is waiting on the player to advance. Reaching a certain point triggers the progression of the level's script. If you're bored with popping out of cover and taking shots, rush the line. I sprinted through KZ2s final level knife in hand and reached Radec in two minutes. If you want to be more aggressive, be more aggressive. And the cover system is perfect. Holding against cover and allowing freedom of movement and where you lean... it's like Time Crisis.
Because the bots are usually honest. Even in KZ1, you could sneak behind the AI and kill them. They needed to spot you or hear you before they detected you. How accurate they are is dependent on difficulty, but you can always improve your accuracy and movement speed to compete with them. |

Tired now. I am sure I will be hearing that *chirp* in my head while I sleep.
Good games, although a couple of new maps for me this session so I didn't do as well. SOme massive one in the dust and another one that was quite cluttered, almost like slums, but multi story and tonnes of narrow corridors and stairs and bridges. Didn't like that one at all. Too cluster fucked for my liking but maybe it was just my lack of knowledge and would be better with a shotty. |

I'm done for a while, good games guys. Top dog last game ;)
I forgot how much fun it is to snipe in this game! Was tearing it up as Scout on Pyrrhus Rise (the big sandy one, for Gen X). Usually I never go sniper but I decided to and man is it fun. One hit kills are so satisfying from long distances. |

and Killzone definitely has my favorite aesthetics and general visual style out of probably any game... well maybe Mirror's Edge would beat it out imo, but point being it looked fantastic overall; from the slight film grain to the insane skyboxes, motion blur, the attention to detail was top tier. It all meshed together so nicely to form a very cohesive worldview of this hugely oppressive planet and the malevolent overlords harvesting its powers.

now imagine if they would have kept the same art direction and atmosphere. It would be even better.

I just had a pretty good round, back on Pyrrhus Rise. It was only about 8-10 vs the same #. Finished with the highest kills and quite a few points. Disarmed bomb, killed propogander speaker dude etc then when the game ends I get a network error before I get all my points. :^/ I'm only 7 points away from Master Sergeant too.

Quit singleplayer at I believe the second to last level because I got fed up with the input lag. Top-notch graphics and atmosphere though. No "too grey" complaints from me. I did think the guns sounded a bit underwhelming but KZ3 majorly improved on this.
Never played MP. Don't know why. |

Man I wish they stuck with this look. The same thing happened with the Gears of War franchise. It's like they took the "next gen color palette" joke to heart, and made a point of putting AlL DaT cOlOrS and ruined the stark, oppressive tone of the game.

I hate this hyperbole that seems to be popular now.
"Uncharted 2 was great, Uncharted 3 sucked!" "KZ2 was awesome, KZ3 was garbage!" Sorry, but the difference in the games and their sequel are minimal at best. If you like one, you should like the other. IMO KZ3 > KZ2 both for MP and SP, but like UC the one game follows the other so people are just no longer amazed by the originality. |
