TV Shows That Would Make Great Games
#1
Playing through the Game of Thrones RPG recently, and generally being disappointed at its shoddy quality made me feel glad that I hadn't ever played such bad video games based on some of my other favorite TV shows... until I realized that I had, in fact, never played video games based on live action TV shows.
So this thread is to have a bit of fun: what TV show do you think would convert well to a video game? I understand The Walking Dead was made into an episodic adventure game, but this thread was more for retail games based on live action TV shows, marketed and sold via traditional channels. I'll start- I think Lost would make a pretty good game. It's got a good setting, the show's structure can have a series of games being made, plus It can have a whole host of villains. Other grunts, Benjamin Linus as the boss, Charles Whidmore's grunts, Charles Whidmore himself as a boss. The smoke monster can be used for some Prince of Persia: Warrior Within-esque Dahaka chase sequences. The time traveling can be used for some dual world/cause effect mechanics like in Zelda games, and each character can have specific strengths and weaknesses. The game can be structured in a non linear way, with you having the freedom to switch characters and tackle his or her missions any time you want, though the order of missions for a specific character will remain fixed. Also, there can be side missions and quests like hunting, building and maintaing shelter, etc etc What TV show do you think would do well as a video game? PLEASE KEEP ALL PLOT ELEMENTS WITHIN SPOILER TAGS, IN CASE PEOPLE HAVE NOT SEEN THE TV SHOW IN QUESTION. |

This. I've always wanted this. Those types of shows and movies are really fun and I think a game in that style done right would be even more enjoyable.

There is some good source material to use and, in the right hands, it could be awesome.

Watch Dogs? Not really, but sort of.
My vote goes to Supernatural/Haven/Warehouse 13. Supernatural could make a good game what with the combat, hunting, etc. and Haven is pretty similar in gameplay build. Warehouse 13 could be a globetrotting artifact hunt, complete with Tesla guns and artifact abuse. Also, Burn Notice. C'mon already. |

If someone wants to do some nigh-impossible detective work, I distinctly remember the announcement of a Twin Peaks video game in development for the NES, from an issue of Gamepro circa 1990. Obviously it never came to fruition, but I always wondered whether it was entirely vaporware or if some prototype or at least a design plan ever existed. The only other clue I have is that I'm pretty sure it was going to be published by Taxan.
Maybe he genuinely didn't like it or something weird like that |
