I don't want to read into that link any further because it will mess me up for a week, but are there any rescue groups trying to help these poor dogs? My entire family is big into rescuing animals, mainly cats, but if we take anymore it will tip the scale to crazy.

I've remember reading some article about how nicer photographs help make the animals more appealing for adoption. Shelters need to get on that.
A lot of dogs get dropped off because people are irresponsible and don't know how much work and care goes into taking care of an animal for its whole life. :( |

If there aren't any strays, we don't need to euthanize. Fix the problem at the source. If we pour tax money into accomodating the homeless animals, it gives people an excuse to get away with that kind of behavior.

The photographer obviously cares very much for dogs, those photos are really moving. The situation sucks and hopefully more people can see these photos and make 100% sure they are doing the right thing by animals all the time.
Thanks for posting Gaborn, this actually cheered me up a little today. Nice to see someone treating them with a bit of humanity in such a shitty situation. |

Ugh, I'm as misty-eyed as I am when those Sleep Train "Donate to our foster kids charity" ads come on the radio.
"Hi, we're a group of young kids and we're going to talk about how rough life is for us in the foster care system. We're going to talk about how our shoes are too small, how we don't have nice clothes, how we don't have jackets, and how we don't believe in Santa even though we're just kids!" It really does make me sad and angry. Adults have earned their asshole card and deserve rough patches in their lives. Kids and dogs haven't. Kids deserve the right to believe a fat man brings them toys for being good and dogs deserve a good home. If I become President, I'm gonna do all I can to get that in the constitution. "Oh, you told a four year old Santa isn't real? YOU VIOLATED THE CONSTITUTION! Oh, you beat a puppy? CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATION!" |

A shame they never get to live a full, happy life, where they are loved and cared for.
Popping into existence, then instantly snuffed out, like that Puppy. Likely that nobody will think about or remember them either. We live in an unfair world.

people are always boasting how they are the smartest animal on the planet, well why can't we come up with a better way to deal with homeless domestic animals? how about farms for strays? they can be helpful as therapy animals, guide dogs, etc. I mean the percentages of those who would end up learning those skills would be low but it'd be better than zero. you can't just ignore it because it upsets you. |

Most people want to have a pet but going to the vet, buying food or anything else that comes with it is too much of a inconvenience. People just dump pets when something arises or they just don't want a pet anymore. They don't even bother to take them to an animal shelter. |

As a person who's grown up with dogs around me, I definitely feel sad reading this. At the same time, I'm more suprised at the reactions in this thread. Are you people so ignorant that you didn't already know that dogs are killed in the hundreds of thousands on a yearly basis across the world?
Anyway, I hope it makes you love and cherish your dog/dogs even more. Give them a great life. |

The problem here is that there's an excessive population of dogs that's entirely due to some people's stupidity. I don't blame the guys that are killing those dogs, they need to solve a problem of public health and public safety. Packs of stray dogs running around can be dangerous.

As a huge dog person, this just ruined my day :'( I'm gonna play with my dog non-stop this weekend!
That being said, when I was in Puerto Rico seeing all the stray dogs suffering and starving was super depressing. Maybe it's for the best that they are put down instead of suffering anymore. 80,000 is a lot and realistically the majority of them won't find homes :'( |

I would assume that is what did it, I remember another thread not long ago where someone was banned after posting a gif of someone being ripped in half in an accident. I would tend to be very cautious about posting gratuitiously violent imagery like that

Did he directly link the image here, or just list the link? I remember about two or three years ago posting a story about tigers being killed and skinned in, I believe, China and I posted a couple pics directly into my thread. Fairly certain I did warn people though.
Oh and this is heartbreaking and the only thing that can destroy Sarah McLachlan as a guilt trip. |

Thanks. I didn't click his link so I didn't know how bad it was. I understand now and it makes sense. Also good to know. Not that I would ever think to post anything like that, but I was never sure on Gaf's vilent image policy.
