They were also experimenting with PS Mobile compatibility for PS3. Not sure if they are still trying (or have given up ?).

It forced me to update last night when I signed into the PSN store (seems like there's an annoyingly slow update every time I sign in, actually :P). Now the XMB keeps hanging for a few seconds after I do certain things and not letting me navigate until it unfreezes. Good job Sony.

Since 4.21 is optional, perhaps you updated to 4.20 ? EDIT: Try to check for system update again. See if 4.21 pops up.

It just wasn't the true update as Jeff was alluding to and to be fair to the guy he even admitted as much. That more likely stopped long ago once BC was fully removed and cemented once the Slim version came out.
