Ah well. In spite of the negativity surrounding it, there were still new level themes in these new videos. Quality platforming is quality platforming; it's kind of amusing that people don't complain about 2D Mega Man games being iterations.

Comparing this to the original DS NSMB, this seems more like a Japanese Mario 2 situation.
People have been calling for Mega Man's platforming retirement for a long time--it wasn't until MM&B and the end of the Zero and ZX series that the "general gaming populace" was like "hey, classic Mega Man! This is AWESOME!" with Mega Man 9; had it been another time, reviewers and the like would have been all "ffs another Mega Man game" just like the X series PSX heyday. Most Mega Man fans will probably admit that platforming Mega Man got stale on a conceptual level. I personally think the only platforming MM to keep itself fresh was Zero (most of the time), but then again it only get 4 entries.

That aside, the sound/music for this game seems pretty ass though the devs seems to be getting a little more creative with environments and stage design. It's just not enough for me to care though--I'm not buying this. This game/series needs a major difficulty hike too--it's TOO EASY. If it were more difficult and had better music, I could look past how otherwise stale this entry is. Plus I never liked the enemies hopping around in tune to the music, it was annoying, like am I supposed to dance with and hug the Goombas?

Not true, if you play the original Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 3 on their original hardware collecting coins becomes a big part of the strategy to earn more lives. This was due to lives themselves being a lot more valuable thanks to the game not saving your progress and beginning at the start every time.

I'm more excited about the Wii U game, but this looks great too. Never really understood those that didn't like the New Super Mario Bros series. To me the games are every bit as good as the classics.

The return of the Minimushroom better not mean the return of "We're blocking off worlds unless you beat bosses with the minimushroom". That was kind of bullshit.
Also dont like that the Megamushroom is back, that thing is so dull to use.

Everything else in the latest trailer looks pretty fun, still not entirely excited on the game but Im sold on it in a "Lets see how it goes" sort of way.

Mega and Mini mushrooms were a lot of fun if the levels are designed with them in mind. Otherwise, they sucked.


Preordered this on NewEgg for $30, can't wait for it to come here! I'm a sucker for these games. :)

I like the coin gimmick. It will at least differentiate this game from the other NSMB titles considering how similar they all look.

Japan's special case color (http://andriasang.com/con1md/nsmb2_packaging/) would insinuate that at minimum they are, but who knows.

Well, Canada at least is getting a shiny gold metallic outer housing for the game. As in, it's a metal case that houses the 3DS game case.

I know JP/EU are getting a gold box. In NA, my local GS had a huge picture of the box art with a white box.

The inside of the JP/EU boxes will likely have little pictures inside the box holes, NA likely will not.

NoA fucking sucks. At least Canada has a steelbook to make up for it, but not US. :(

I've just fallen out of love with 2D Mario games. They all look and sound the same to me these days. I'm sure they're still excellently made, but meh. I'll be over here waiting for the next 3D Mario to rock my socks off.

Oh man. Just imagining Mario Galaxy 3 on the Wii U in 720p... *drool* I don't even care if it's another Galaxy. Whatever it is, as long as it looks as good as those Dolphin screenshots do or better.

Still disappointed by the backgrounds (it's hard not to be after seeing the ones from the Wii U version).

I just hope the controls are as tight as NSMB Mii and not like NSMB1 (which were too lose/floaty).

Oh, I remember being irritated by that in New Super Mario Bros. I saw the branching world maps and I was thought "Holy crap! So different worlds have branching paths, and depending on what I do I can unlock different worlds!"

Then all you really have to do is beat World 2 while mini-mode to get World 4, and that...sucked.

I'm still not sure about this game. Building the game around coins doesn't inspire excitement at all, imo. I really can't believe this is everything they have to show for the first numbered sequel.

I'd gladly eat these words later, but for the time being I'm more disappointed with every new media they show for this game.

The whole coin collecting clusterfuck is such a shitty concept. It feels like they were in the design stages of Wario Land 5 and suddenly were like, Mario sells more than Wario so let's just change the character and name. Oh and the actual game looks shitty too. I remember someone did a comparison of all the NSMB games and it was near impossible to pick out each game. Ugh, and why do they still continue to have that dreadful music style? I just finished NSMB Wii and it had the worst soundtrack ever for a mainline Mario game (only rivaled by the original NSMB). Does anyone who went to E3 know if they fixed the weird physics of the prior NSMB games for NSMB 2/U?

I wish you could trade in the ingame coins for eShop credits. At least all the collected coins would have a use then. Gathering them for a 1-up seems quite useless now.

The trailer still didn't convince me. With the busy release schedule of the 3DS, this game ends up very low on my priority list.

Okay, lemme amend what I said before. After actually watching the clips, it looks not completely horrible. In fact, the backgrounds look quite a bit better than they did in the past two NSMB games.

Still pretty disappointing though.

I quite like it myself. Not as a power up, but as a reward that skips part of the level in the same way a green pipe shortcut does. I hope it's used sparingly though.

...not a big fan of NSMB, I admit. But it's not a terrible game some say it is, at least for me...


plus, just let the giant mushroom walk to its death and voila, problem solved! It could be seen as a meta-minigame!

it's the focus of the game. It's been implied that coins do serve a bigger purpose than just accumulating 1ups...heck i'm not even sure 100 coins equal 1 up anymore in this game

I was hoping this second trailer would show more interesting aspects of the game, but nope, more coins and boring giant Mario is back. Maybe the game has some redeeming qualities, but they sure haven't showed them yet.
