HD version screwed up their ability to shake you off. It's obnoxious. You'll sometimes use up your entire grip meter just going through back-to-back jostle cycles.

This series is the best Zelda "clone" I've ever seen, people always look at Okami, Darksiders or even dark cloud for a few years. But I think this one easily takes the cake.

The real reason for that is simple, it only took a few elements from the Zelda series while the rest is from their creation. Furthermore, they didn't just copy mechanics, its like they tried to identify why some things worked with people the way it did, and they made that factor their own.

I love both series really, but really they did a fantastic job with SoTC and ICO.

What's wrong with playing as the bad guy ?

Bad guy has mother and father who love him too, once upon a time anyway.

I noticed that too. I used to be really good at this game on the PS2, but I was trying to realize why I suck on the HD version.

As others have mentioned, feeling guilt after each colossus goes down is part and parcel to the experience of playing this game. Such a strange feeling, but that's what makes it a damn classic.

I really need to get around to play this game. How expensives are PS3s these days?

I don't know if I have spoiled it too much, I know the colossus are innocent creatures, and that your horse dies, besides that I do not know how it actually ends, but I suspect you don't revive the girl, and that you are pretty much an asshole for killing the poor things that have done nothing.

So annoying, some people can't tell the difference, it wasn't a big deal till the later Colossi and they start constantly shaking.
At one point I got exactly what you did, just constantly being thrown around with no time to stab or regain your meter, very annoying, I was hoping they would fix it with a patch but they have seemingly ignored it.

Only about two of them actively try to kill you before you hurt them. The rest act only in self defence. One doesn't hurt you even when you hurt it.

I remember at one point around colossi 9 or 10 I was heading to the area the sword told me they were hiding in ... and i just kind of slowed down to a settled trot. Looking around myself.. taking in the sights kind of admiring the game. No music. No enemies. Just the clip clop of my horse and an occasional neigh of sorts.

The desert i remember especially watching the next foe emerge... and start to circle and I just sat on my horse and watched for a while. I will forever be amazed what they managed to pull out of the PS2. The whole idea that the only enemies in the game were the bosses was something so special to me. I think that fact more than any other (besides possibly the amazing soundtrack and sound presentation) are what made me so sympathetic. No faceless drone #745 here. Real, tangible threats that exist for a reason.

Opposite is true. Most of them become aggressive the instant they detect your presence. A couple of them mind their own business until you attack, fair enough.

Loved the game, never got that feeling. You're a small young human being facing walking skyscrapers in an attempt to save a girl's life. I thought the game was absolutely beautiful even without ever giving a damn about the Colossi's feelings.

Then again, Kratos is one of my favorite characters.

There are like 3 that are truly aggressive. Like angry at you. A lot of them are like puppy curious .. they walk at you and try to get close but their eyes stay blue until you attack/climb them. then like 1 or two are pacifists ... flying colossi are just like hey bro piss off.

Unless i'm remembering it entirely wrong. Just played a few months ago after seeing on the psn and omfgwtf buying it instantly. My original ps2 disk is scratched and won't let me finish the damn epilogue.

Damn I know! I should just get a ps2, they are dirt cheap aren't they? I don't like this talk that the HD remaster tamper with some of the gameplay mechanics. The game was beautiful enough on the ps2.

However, okami + SOC in HD makes me reconsider.

That realization that you're playing as the bad guy is part of what makes this game great. You play it and have to do the unethical thing, because that's the only choice you're given.

Such an amazing job at telling a story by gameplay (wich should be what distinguish videogames from other mediums of expression) AND its doing a great job at inducing emotions too. A freaking masterpiece!!

"Shadow of the Collossus feels like I'm playing as the bad guy."

Which is precisely what Team ICO wanted you to do: make up your own story. They don't tell you who you are, why you are there, who you are saving, what your relationship is with that person and why you are being pursued.

If you think you are the bad guy then so be it. You make your own adventure.

The majority of them, as soon as they see you, their eyes go from blue to orange; they come at you, they attack you, and if you don't defend yourself, they kill you.

Those are the only examples that aren't aggressive that I can remember. I can't think of any others that don't go into attack mode the instant they see you.

The lake serpent really doesn't go out of its way to attack you, really; he doesn't do anything besides swim.

Also, and I could be remembering this incorrectly, but I do believe that a good chunk of the colossi won't bother to attack you unless you attack first. I know that's the case for the first one and the salamander.

I thought I was the only one. I've never seen that mentioned before and some of the Colossusesess(!) seem like they wouldn't necessarily hurt you. I'm only up to about the 4th or 5th one, like you, I keep taking a haiatus. My backlog. It is huge.

Nah.

Ares and Zeus were too big o' dickheads for him to be completely the bad guy.

The closest he got was the beginning of GOW 2 where he was warmongering worse than Ares ever was.

I would have been interesting if they'd continued on from that little bit and made Kratos the big bad of another hero's journey.

No it's cool. Those big monsters are big and stuff. Big stuff is bad. You should kill the bad stuff. Don't worry about all that dark penetrating tendrils that fly into your chest when it's all over that's just the magic of saving your girl.

Don't worry too much about how your character looks either later in the game. He doesn't shower and stuff.
